I've owned my '01 QX4 for 10 years..SES light has been on (when gas tank is between 3/4 and 1/4 full) for 3 years. I had it diagnosed and it's a valve in the gas intake, and I'm not paying to have it fixed. That being said, I've been burning premium gas(with ethanol) forever, but my wife got a tank of premium ethanol -free gas for the last fill, and the light has been off since! I then put in another tank of ethanol- free premium , at another gas station, and the light came on again a few miles later. I found out that the original ethanol free gas was 93 octane, and the latest was only 91. Is this making a difference in the SES light ?? or is it just coincidence? Is it the ethanol??...is it the octane?? is it me??
