Hey guys,

I just got an 08 Coupe SE less than 2 weeks ago, and 2 days after I got it, the Service Engine Soon light came on. I knew that a common cause for that light is the gas cap not being on tight enough, so I checked it right away, and it was on plenty tight (clicked a few extra times). At this point I hadn't even put fuel in it yet. So, I drove it around a few more days (to see if it would work itself out), but the light stayed on, so I made an appointment at the dealership to have it looked at. They called back saying (of course) that the gas cap wasn't on tight enough. I didn't argue with them, and just thanked them and went back to enjoying the car. Well, this morning on the way to work (5 days since the dealership looked at it), the light came back on. I had filled it up with gas on Monday, and made extra sure that I tightened the cap plenty to avoid something like this again. Obviously it didn't help, though

So.. I guess I'm going to have to have the dealership look at it again. But, I first wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions as to how I should approach talking to the dealership about it (since this is the 2nd time), or if there was something I didn't know about these cars that would cause this. (I can't find any recalls regarding it.)

Thanks,

Matt

well listen. you by law are covered by something called lemon law...so when you take it back to the dealership make sure they give you a detailed report of what they did to thge car to fix it.. if the same problem.."same" hence the word same... occurs 4 times... thne by law they have to change out the car or contact.. so just be patient and let continue to happen .. 4 times within in a year equals new car or cancelled contract cuz of its lemo state... dont worry you'll be fine

Cool. I had thought about the lemon law, but I didn't know if it would apply to something like the SES light coming on 4 times (and them "fixing" it 4 times). I guess I'm halfway there already, haha. I'd be willing to bet it's something simple, but I'm sure if I end up taking it there 4 times for the same thing, I'd be about fed up by that point. Thanks for the suggestion. I'll make an appointment with the dealership and not make a big deal about it and see where it goes.

yea, the lemon law only applies to repetitive major malfunctions and/or saftey inhibators, that prevent you from driving

same kinda issue with me. Took it to the dealership. They informed me that they've had to replace 4 gas caps so far. Something about the seal leaking. Replaced my gas cap, no more CEL.

side question from this...

does the lemon law apply to canada?

my clutch has been failing on me so often, but i have gone to the dealership over 20 times (not lying), and still no solution, but my clutch can cause a major accidents...because the clutch dropps to the bottom and must be manually lifted, and friction point varies...

i should call nissan again and see if they will replace my entire car?...i should stop dreaming?

at this point you should contact nissan directly and let them know because that is a major safety issue.. especially if your driving a manual.. u need the clutch to drive the car... as far as canada i believe the lemon law does apply but you would have to investigate on that...i dont want to say yes and it apply to u...

Got my car back from the dealership on Friday. (Had a trip to go on, so didn't have a chance to post then.) Anyhow, they replaced the gas cap, and so far the light hasn't come back on (put about 150 miles on it so far). I hope that was it! Thanks for the advice.

I had this exact problem as well. The dealership diagnostic revealed a failed sonsor. After replacement I had no more issues.

If you have the problem again I can cite the code from the invoice for ya.
