Setting up a VPN through a Sprint Mobile Broadband card on a Computer using Windows Vista, 32 Bit OS. The Sprint Connection software needs specific services running in order for it to create the dial-up connection for the card to connect. These services are Remote Access Auto Connection Manager, Remote Access Connection Manager, and Telephony. However, of the the 3 services, I can't get RAACM and RACM to start on this computer. I know the registry fixes for this issue but I'm not allowed to modify a customer's registry over the phone. Any suggestions?

send them the modded registry entries as a file, and have them double-click to merge them? it requires them opening it and clicking yes.

Did you try going through Manage my computer and see if you could turn them on that way??

It's still modifying the registry. I can have no direct or indirect action on the registry.

I was under the assumption that is where services.msc takes you but I will try that thanks.

*note* you cant attach yourself to a domain unless you have vista business or ultimate. RDP has restrictions too i believe.

Correct but we haven't even established an internet connection yet. We need these services to establish a connection.

you can use the Services snap-in to change the default settings for a service. Membership in Account Operators or Domain Admins, Enterprise Admins, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure. You can always run command prompt and manual edit "sc config".;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;I would edit the current logged in user by adding domain admin or owner rights.

Double check Remote Procedure Call it must be started before Remote anything can take place.

What type of error are you getting when you try to start it?

Sucks trying to do this over the phone, when 30% of the time they are not where they say they are. And if you cant get those to start no luck in getting remote assistance either.

well it wasnt me, buddy told me about it.

None the less, not sure how "hostile" your post was. But if you dont believe me, try it sometime with someone not experience well with a computer and you will understand.

Ok, I totally missed the part where you havent established an internet connection. Are you talking just from the card or connection at all...??

The way the card works is that on first use you have to activate the card. The card during the activation process remotely creates a Dial up connectoid in network connections. Naturally this calls upon RAACM, RACM, and Telephony. So the software can't activate the card and we thus can't connect.

You forgot to mention which svhost.

Redtop, ok..not trying to undermind or question you. So please dont think so. I dont think I fully get the issue.

How do you know that it wont connect. Was there an issue with installing the driver for the card? I guess what im asking is how did you get to the point where you pinpointed the services as being the issue?

Also, if it wont dial up it may be because a broadband lan net work whether it be from wireless, wired dsl or cable sometimes has to be disabled to connect. See if the customer is able to connect when he disables the local area connection. And of course re-enabling it either way.

I know it won't connect because the card has not been activated. The Connection software does not see the card because it creates a DUN connectoid before it initializes the card. The connection software can't use RAACM and RACM to create the DUN necessary to initialize the card, to activate the card, to connect with the card.
