I'm going for a "Maintenance #2" oil change package next week. My service manager laughed when I asked him how much, he said "we don't actually charge you for the package, we don't believe in ripping our customers off like most dealerships. We'll check all those items for you, including an engine audible check for the regular oil change price. Ha ha ha".
The price for Maint. #2 is $189.00, but instead they will only charge $56.00 for the oil change, I want to upgrade to full synthetic Mobil 1 so the charge will be $95.00 and I'm good for 8000 km, or 6 months. ALSO, I mentioned that I think the engine is making a more pronounced "ticking" at idle, at normal operating temperature, than I thinkm it used to when new. I have only 2 months of powertrain warranty remaining, so I want them to give this a listen and get their opinion if there's any indicators of problems, he said they'll also include this with the basic oil change, no extra charge!! They've been doing this for me for the past 5 years, saved me a lot of cash, as a result its been a very cheap vehicle to maintain.
It really is true, dealerships are highly variable in terms of costs, and quality of service. I've got myself such a great service shop that I'll be more inclined to buy a Nissan next time, and for now I wouldn't think of going to an independant garage, many of which are more expensive than the dealer and would be less familiar with this specific car, including the CVT, and not able to access TSB and recall information.
300,000 km for the CVT fluid? Where the heck did they get from? I can't believe the huge variablity from one dealer to the next for CVT fluid replacement, very strange. Its doubtful the CVT will even last 300,000 km, and if it does, I don't think at that point I'd be messing around with changing the fluid, just keep driving it till it dies, but that's just me!
