I concur.... the general rule of thumb is wait until the first 5000 miles before switching to synthetic. Also you should take it easy on a brand new motor for at least the first 500 miles. New motors are actually broken in when you buy the car but that doesn't mean you should buy the car and then proceed to drive it off the lot and beat the piss out of it.masterteque wrote:You can use synthetic when ever you like. They advise to wait till after your first service because the manufacturer puts in a lot of additives in the oil for proper break in. Synthetic oil has also shown to cause some problems with properly letting the piston rings seat. With your mileage you should have no problems. You can go back and forth when ever you like between synthetic and regular. I believe it is great to run synthetic but the trade off is it's costly. If you change your oil very frequent then synthetic may not be an option for you.
You can actually go back and forth between synthetic and mineral oils. In areas with extreme temperature variances, people will use synthetics when its cold and mineral oils when it warms up again. Just that if you use a pure synthetic, you'll need to flush it out before you go back to mineral (Mobil1 isn't a pure synthetic).adrians_s13 wrote:The only reason why I'd think he'd suggest that is because it's costly, and once you go synthetic, you can't go back to regular.
thanks...was gonna say that toosmockers83 wrote:

Smockers, where did you get this information? I would just like to read up on it since I use Mobil 1. I know on the bottle it says 'Fully Synthetic', so I'm wondering if it's not 'pure synthetic', how can they put that on the bottle??Thanks!!smockers83 wrote:

i was gonna say that or the only other thing i could think of is that your engine has ran conventional oil for many miles but that is not your caseadrians_s13 wrote:
