I had the same thing happen to me. According to the manual and the service staff, the most likely cause of the SES light to come on is not closing the gas cap all the way, or some sort of transient emissions problem. Ours came on for no apparent reason, as we were between fillups, so I dropped into the dealership and they reset it. The service person told me that there is no problem driving around with the warning lit up - so long as it is not flashing, and that it resets after several (many?) driving cycles. Apparently we had not waited long enough for it to reset. If the light is flashing, they say you should pull over right away and have it towed.
