You could go to your local Autozone ... they have free OBD-II scanners that you can use to get a first-blush answer to why the engine has set an error code. Alternatively, time for a trip to the dealer to get them to read it with a Nissan Consult and see what is up!

Could be anything as simple as a not tightly shut fuel cap (that is one of the NHTSA and EPA requirements to throw a code) to more complicated items! Best to get it looked at.

This is out of the 2006 M owners manual but it is pretty standard for all "Nissans"

Malfunction indicator lamp on steady An emission control system malfunction has been detected. Check the fuel filler cap. If the fuel-filler cap is loose or missing, tighten or install the cap andcontinue to drive the vehicle. The lamp should turn off after a few driving trips. If the lamp does not turn off after a few driving trips, have the vehicle inspected by an INFINITI dealer. You do not need to have your vehicletowed to the dealer.

Malfunction indicator lamp blinking An engine misfire has been detected which may damage the emission controlsystem. To reduce or avoid emission control system damage:a) Do not drive at speeds above 45 MPH (72 km/h).b) Avoid hard acceleration or deceleration.c) Avoid steep uphill grades.d) If possible, reduce the amount of cargo being hauled or towed. The malfunction indicator lamp may stop blinking and remain on.Have the vehicle inspected by an INFINITI dealer. You do not need tohave your vehicle towed to the dealer.

I agree with Szhosain, you should get it looked at if it stays on.
