I have a 2008 M45 S with 114,800 miles, the light came on this morning. Is it a regular service interval light, or potentially worse? Thanks.

When was the last time your car was serviced? What was done at that time?

Are you talking about what we refer to as the "Check Engine Light" ... in Red? This is a generic light that comes on whenever the car reports a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for a variety of reasons.

Could be as simple as a fuel cap that is not on properly (or cap is leaking gasoline vapor ... happens - will need replacement) or something more serious.

Best to read it quickly and see what it is. You can rent an OBD-II reader for free from Autozone, for example. Or have the dealer read it (will cost some, of course).

Yep! Nissans don't typically have a maintenance reminder light.
In the manual it says the service engine soon is a malfunction indicator light. So SES = MIL = CEL (check engine light for us laypeople). Confusing I know, but words are better than symbols that not everyone can interpret.

Page 2-19 of the owners manual indicates it could be as simple as a loose gas cap, or something more serious that needs the code read first, as advised above.

Had the code checked, P1111 -Intake Valve Timing Control Solenoid Valve Circuit Bank 1. The valve uses oil flow to control timing, I'll try changing the oil (I have let it go a bit long this time), clear the code and see what happens.
