hello. I own 2001 QX4 with 122000 miles and recently had my service engine light go on and code P0171 revealed a faulty 02 sensor after catylatic converter and thus replaced this and cleaned MAF Sensor, reset codes and ran without light coming back on for about 200 miles and then light just came on again today. I did not get a chance to take back to Auto Zone to run scanner again, but is this typical with anyone? car runs beautiful and actually better since I also had put in a can of Seafoam into gas tank. let me know your thoughts please.

Welcome to NICO.

Seafoam is not an effective cleaner; it's full of solvents and does not clean completely; it leaves its own residue behind. After you've got rid of the tank with Seafoam in it, buy a 20oz bottle of Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner. It contains PEA (polyether amine) detergents, which clean deposits without leaving behind their own residue. Put it in your tank before filling up, then try to allow the vehicle to sit and allow the cleaner to soak; don't burn through the entire tank quickly like you would on a lengthy highway trip.

Pull codes again and list them all if there are multiple, please.

Every 2 years or 30k miles should be a reasonable interval.

Have you ever flushed the brake fluid? If not, you should do so every two years. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture from the atmosphere. This lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid, potentially causing brake fade earlier than "dry" fluid during heavy braking. It can also hasten corrosion in the brake lines and calipers.

Power steering fluid should be changed every other oil change. Use a turkey baster or suction gun to siphon fluid from the power steering fluid reservoir. Use synthetic automatic transmission fluid for lowered operating temperature and better cold weather performance of the power steering system.

Don't forget to grease your driveshaft(s) every oil change. Use NLGI No. 2 lithium soap base grease containing molybdenum disulphide.

Download a copy of the factory service manual. To save a copy of the FSM, right click -> Save As on every PDF, and save them into a single folder.

Your spark plugs were due for a change at 105k miles. Were they done around then?

The cabin air filter is a commonly forgotten maintenance item. Have you ever changed it? If not, see this thread for a guide.

Have you ever changed the fuel filter? There is a guide here.

If you have not yet had your QX4 inspected for the strut housing corrosion recall, get this done as soon as possible.

P0171 is the right (passenger's side) fuel injection system too lean.

Check for intake air leaks; ensure all intake plumbing is tight and your air filter seals well in the air box. Also clean your MAF sensor using MAF cleaner spray only. You may need a security T20 Torx bit to remove the two screws securing the MAF sensor. Be sure to disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting the MAF sensor wiring harness.
