I have a 1999 infinty i30. I disconnected the battery for 25 hrs to try and reset the ses, didnt work. I have had a mechanic fix what was supposedly wrong and says there is nothing wrong with the car but my light keeps coming on after about 30min everytime its reset. Ive tried the gas pedal idea, no good. Car runs great, emmissions are fine. Just cant keep the light off.

I would stop by one of your favorite parts stores and ask them to pull the code. Has your mechaninc told you the code and what the associated components are activating the SES/CEL? We would need to know the code to help you out further.

You will also get that code if the egr tube is clogged so its entirely possible that your mechanic put a new EGR valve without checking if the tube was clogged or not.
