Service Engine Soon Light?

This is my first post here, so I want to say, "Hi!" to everyone.

Okay, I have a 2004 Nissan Sentra 1.8 with 67000 miles on it. Last week, my Service Engine Soon light came on and has stayed on since. My local mechanic wants to chafrge me $70 to run a diagnostic on the car to see what the problem is. Do you think this is a fair price?

Is there something I can myself to find the cause of the light coming on?

The only thing I can think of is that the car won't start somtimes; it'll turn over, it just won't start unless I try it for a few seconds, shut the ignition off completely, then start it again. It may take 2-3 tries before it catches.

$70 for a diagnostic? HAHAHAHAHA no effin way dude, you can diagnose it your self, if u can get the car to turn on, take it to autozone and have them pull the code for you (its a free service). then u can search for what the code means on the net. or post it here and someone will reply with what it means.

My mechanic wouldnt pull that one me. $70 bucks for a diagnostic of a Check engine light..........

Most Autozone stores should run the code and tell you what it means for free.

Regardless, I'm pretty certain that you've fallen victim to the fuel pump failure recall. Call a dealer and see if you're VIN is within the range, then have them fix it for free.

yeah i couldnt remember if they would tell you what it meant.

also they can clear a code for you as well.
