Go by an AutoZone style place and have them pull the codes. Let us know what the codes are and we can try to help you with it.

knock sensor is a common nissan problem, they heat and crack and that causes the ecu to retard timing and retard your performance =p

dont buy it fom the dealer, get the KS on ebay for muuuch cheaper and its the same thing

on a side note, I've heard that Autozone will no longer scan codes or allow you to purchase and return scanners to check your vehicle because theres some law about them not having credentials to diagnose vehicles i duno thats what i heard last time i went =/

Please post model, year, and engine. And the NUMERIC code that was readout,it will be something like P1234. The AutoZone places often get the meaningof the code wrong, esp. if it's P1000 and up, which are unique to manufactureror vehicle (they give you the meaning for something different). Then somebody here with the right service manual can tell you what to check.

Dunno about yours, but on my 'vette, the KS is just threaded into one of theblock coolant drain holes. Looked to be about a 20 minute job.

On my '01 3.5L PF, the only knock sensor code says "IT'S KNOCKING!" not "badsensor". And there's a whole bunch of "check connections" stuff before gettingto "replace the sensor".

I still have the FSM from my '95PF with the 3.0L version of your engine. TheKS is in the valley between the cylinders, most likely next to the starboard(US passenger side) aft cylinder but maybe next to the port (US driver side)forward cylinder. The picture in the FSM is a little unclear as to which is thefront of the engine.

P0325 is the standard code for knock sensor that on my '01 means 'it's knocking' not 'bad knock sensor'. Maybe someone with a '98 manual can shed more light.

Knock can destroy your engine. You should be able to hear it, generally atlow rpm accelleration. What grade of gas do you run? Try a tank of name-brand Premium.

yeah i do not hear it, it has always sounded the same with no change. i just use regular. Wouldnt it most likely be a sensor due to there has been no sound change in the motor. what do you think is my best bet to get this all taken care of?? thanks abunch!

sometimes its just a wiring problem.for instance, the check engine light came on in my pathfinder. So i took it to Shucks and ran a code on the ecu. nothing wrong with it, just a wierd wiring system. Happens quite often with pathfinders, lol

yeh but the code read out to be the p0325 which is the knock sensor code so im just a little bit nervous due to i dont want a dead motor. hah just because i can hear it doesnt mean damage isnt being done. but i definitly hope it is just a wiring problem!!
