2002 Nissan Pathfinder

My SES light has been on for awhile. This past weekend I went to get it inspected and it failed (obviously) do to the light being on. The states machine (Delaware) gave me a code of P1140. Looked up the code and seems like a simple fix. So I decided to do the old gas pedal trick to reset the SES light. Sure enough it blinked 1 1 4 and then the typical 10 flashes. So I shut the car off, turned it back on and the light was off (did not drive). The next morning I started the car and the light was back on. So I did the same reset trick and got the same code. However this time, I restarted the car and headed to work. Not even 200 yards down the road, the SES started randomly blinking. No pattern or consistency. So of course I research that and get all kinds of people saying to get it to a mechanic NOW as a flashing SES light is bad. Half way to work, I pulled over and did the reset trick again. All with the same results. Started to finish my drive and the light started flashing again. The entire drive (about 18 miles) the car ran perfectly normal. No hesitation, no misfires etc. So is this really a serious issue (cat converter, spark plugs, coils etc.) or is this some sort of faulty wiring? Wouldn't I get other codes if it were a more serious issue?

from what i found in a 3 second search is that a p1140 is realated to intake valve timing control sensor or solenoid. why not give fixing the issue a whirl instead of clearing the code and hoping it goes away?

I plan on fixing the issue as I know what the fix is and it's relatively easy. I didn't do the reset to simply make it go away. I wanted to see if there were any other codes. As well as to make sure that after the car went through a drive cycle, that that didn't produce any new codes. My main concern was the flashing light and what some people say that means. Just wondering if the flashing light is bad, why wouldn't it produce other codes to go with the bad sign of a flashing SES. As well as do I really NEED to stop driving and get it to a shop immediately.

Why wouldn't I be getting any misfire codes like a P0300 or something of that nature? I'm still only getting the same code for the intake valve timing control sensor.
