Hi,

The "service engine light" on my 2002 QX4 keeps burning out. After I replace it the light illuminates upon start up (along with the other warning lights) as normal. After a few starts, however, the light burns out. Does anybody have a suggestion on how to diagnose this problem? I actually need the light to work in order to have my vehicle pass California smog testing.

You sure you are replacing it with the right bulb? IIRC, that bulb is a dealer iteman pricy (like $25 -- I burned out one of the others).

yes. used the correct bulb. one thing is curious, i brought the vehicle into the dealership last year because the check engine light was on supposedly for a failed oxygen sensor. after the sensor was replaced the light kept coming back on. i had take the truck back to the dealership 4 times before they finally got the light to "turn off". makes me wonder if the dealership did something to short out the light.
