09 Versa 1.6. Service engine soon light came on less than 400 miles. Dealer said it was thermostat code but everything checked out fine. They reset light & sent me on my way..Light came back on aprox. 800 mi. Dealer said same code, need to replace coolant temp. sensor. Sensor not in stock, bring car back next week. Sensor replaced, light came on again. Nissan tells dealer this is happening on this model in cold weather states, replace coolant and thermostat. Thermostat not in stock, had to take car to shop again. Thermostat and coolant replaced, light came on again! Nissan engineers flew in and put a sophisticated data recorder on my car and another one from the same dealer having the same problem. Light came on again. Nissan said to keep driving the car. Today the car quit running. Engine just died while I was driving. Car behind me nearly hit me. I transport children. If We Had been on the freeway with an 18 wheeler on our tail we could have been killed. Car won't run, had to be towed to dealer. Problems with this versa are no longer just inconvenient, now it is a safety issue. I am filing a Lemon Law claim to have nissan take the car back.

Holy God are you serious??

The car is brand spanking new and all this stuff happened?? I totally agree with you, a sevice engine light is inconvenient but when the engine dies in the middle of traffic it's dangerous.

The new 1.6 Versa's seem to have a very bad assembling and quality, hence the 11,000$ price tag. Our lives do not have a tag though.

I wish you good luck with the lemon law file. Nobody deserves an unreliable and dangerous car, new or old.

OMG, that is horrible to hear. I can't believe your car is having all these problems. I like how they attribute everything to 'cold weather'. I live in Ontario and we had a really bad winter this year, and I was in Buffalo NY a lot. My car started every time, and the engine light has never come on and my V is almost 1 year old. I hope they do something for you. Good luck with everything.

Why not check out the Hyundai Accent? And I don't wanna hear any s*** about how Hyundai sucks. They've gotten a lot better over the years and Nissan is not god. No company is. I've seen plenty of Toyotas give up before my american built Dodge Neon so shove it.

But anyways... I test drove on a few months before I got my Versa and although I ended up with a Versa, the Accent wasn't bad at all. It's the other $10,000 car option. If you need the room though, try your luck with another 1.6 Versa but I imagine the Accent would give better mileage being a smaller car.

Lol, I actually owned an Accent. It was a 2001, and I agree w/ you. People can say what they want about it, but it was 7 years old when I traded it in with 140,000 km AND it always started. Never had one problem. Well, the check engine light was ALWAYS on, but there was nothing wrong with the car. Would I buy another Accent, no, but some people may like it. They look great but after owning one I would never buy another one. I test drove an 08 Accent, brand new, and it honestly gave the same ride as my old Accent. I have been lucky and have had no problems with my V so I love it and would not trade it in for anything. And yes my old Accent was AMAZING in regards to gas mileage. Never cost more than $30 to fill up a tank and it would last about 600 km. The thing was great on gas, that is the one thing I liked about it.

If you test drove the '08 Civic before you got the Versa, would you of got that instead?

No. Everyone I know owns a Civic. I did not want it simply for that reason. Plus I wanted a hatchback. Not a sedan.

I'm sorry to hear this happened to you. I hope they take that thing back, it seems the 1.6l engines are having serious problems. I hope their mistakes don't result in injuries to anyone, and this problem is resolved soon. Best of luck to you, and I'm glad to hear you were able to pull off to safety before something REALLY bad happened.

That is too bad. I went through an arbitrator to have my car bought back over 20 years ago. This is before they had a lemon law in the state I was residing.

I experienced far more problems than just stalling although mine did that as well.

I don't regret the purchase of the Versa. Two years and three months, over 24,000 miles and it runs great. That hatchback has been, uh...versatile, great fuel mileage, nimble, easy to maintain.

The best part is the headroom it offers. I don't have to fold myself in half to get in and out. The design allows me to enter and exit with ease.

I also like the fact that it's very quiet and I have a ton of features and options for little money. A very good bargain for what you get.

Yes, the Lemon Law seems like the way to go. Sounds like you got a bad one. But the fact that they flew Nissan engineers in to check it out (even if their advice was bad) shows that it's not endemic. It does seem strange, though, that one dealership got two with the same problem. Maybe they were built the same day?

Sorry to hear this. Between my family and I, we've owned 8 Nissans (5 Nissans, 3 Infinitis), spanning model years from 1993 to 2008. All have been tip-top performers, even into their respective 'old age'.

It pains me to hear that the 1.6L Versa is having issues like this. Hopefully you'll find a solution somehow - even if it means getting out of your Versa and into something far more reliable. Incidents like this don't really make for repeat customers.
