I just brought an 06 m35 and its been like 2 weeks now and the other day while I was driving I was making a U turn and I hitted the curb where it kinda slammed on the bottom of the car not that bad. when I was reversing from wal mart and put it on drive that sucker didn't move the slip and the vdc light came on i parked some where and turn off the car and i turned back on but the service engine light came on but it drives the same now. what does the service engine light usually means?

It means that something is wrong. Go get it checked out soon. When it flashes there is something that could be detrimental to the engine.

Anyone of a 100 different sensors can light the MIL either by being too low or too high or no signal at all.

Why one must have a FSM and a OBD2 scann tool or constantly take it to dealer for diagnosis.

Like has been said ... something is not quite right. Check with an OBD-II tool (free OBD-II scanner rentals are available at Autozone, for example) or take it in to the dealer and have them check it out.
