Hi folks,

I have a 2008 Murano SL which will soon require its first oil change service. The Nissan dealership where I purchased the vehicle is over 30 miles away and I would prefer to bring it to a closer Nissan Dealership. My question is this: is there a way to tell how one dealership's service department is relative to another...maybe some sort of excellence award from Nissan or a benchmark award for service departments that meet or exceed quality and customer service levels?

The Nissan dealership that is closest (and most convenient) to me has a pretty shady sales department, and I am a little wary about using their service department unless I can get some assurance that it's not as shady as their sales staff!

I'm not aware of any but it's fairly easy to fake some of those awards unfortunately. Even when I purchased my Nissan they really encouraged me to bring my buying experience survey in to let them fill out so they could get high marks. I was all ready to ignore their request until they told me I would get a gas card for the effort. I sold out easy on that one. In their defense, I was going to give them high marks anyway.

FWIW, if you want to test the dealership to get an initial feel for the quality, an oil change is one of the easiest things they can do and if you feel they didn't do it properly it's easy to eat the cost and have it done/checked at another dealer/mechanic.
