It's a long story, but I needed a new block for my CA18DET. I bought one while I was in Afghanistan. I'm back now and I talked to the machine shop today and it turns out that the one I bought is a CA18DE block - it has no oil squirters. In addition to that, it had to be bored out .020".

I thought that I had a DET block and was going to buy over sized pistons. Since what I have is a DE block, what should I do? Should I:

A) try to find another DET block?

B) try to find another DE block locally and save on the shipping? The machine shop said they could try to fit in the oil squirters from my old block.

C) use the block I have since at least I know what I've got and get some over sized pistons for it. I really don't need forged pistons, though, since I only plan on running 10 psi of boost.

D) buy a new engine swap and part out the stuff I don't need.

Anyone in Texas have an extra det block lying around?

twenty thou isn't that bad, and your oil squirters will fit with a little drilling and tapping. I might just try and make her work, but that's just me.

That's my question. Do I need them? Finding a DE block isn't hard. Can I use it with the DET crank, rods, pistons, and head?

if your going to run cast pistions then yes i would want the oil squarters but if your going to be using forged pistons its not that big of a deal.

I would get the DE block fitted for the squirters and get forged pistons. I really don't think you're going to save a lot, if ANY money trying to source a set of Nissan DET pistons in an oversize.

It's true that forged pistons have a higher rate of thermal transfer and can transfer heat into the block easier, but ALL types of pistons will benefit from a piston squirter.

Is this hard for a machine shop to do?

I can say for %100 sure that det parts work in the de bottom end perfectly... And that any competent machine shop can install the squirters if you have an old engine for reference, and the squirters. I built an engine recently from a brand new bare de block - had the machine work done at the machine shop for the squirters (blocks are actually the exact same nissan casting number - just different machining). My det main cap girdle and bolts bolted right on over the de main caps perfectly, and det crank, rods, pistons installed perfect as well.... The average person would think it was a brand new det...

That's exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks,

i know of people with stock bottom end sr20de pushing 20psi through them with no squirters making 400whp on competition track cars, still going.

its going to cost to much for the machine shop to install those squirters anyways, and since you have forged pistons just forget about them.
