Hi all,

Just 'found' this forum recently. Looks like a good place to get G37 info I'm seriously considering one, so I thought I'd better register so I can better interact here.

I'm curious if anyone here knows if the hard drive that the navigation info is stored on, is the same drive that you can store music on? In other words, are there 2 drives in the G37 w/ Nav package, or is there just 9.3GB or so free for music?

Extra credit: what do you think the odds will be that someone will figure out a way to swap the drives out?

Thanks, and hi

I'm pretty sure it's 1 hard drive with 9.3 left. I asked the same question about swapping out the hard drive and putting a new one in.

Problem #1, the nav unit is one piece. If something breaks they take out the whole component and send it in and replace it. That means that you'll very noticeably void your warranty if you start playing in this realm.

Problem #2, you'll have to get a pretty rugged mobile harddrive. I haven't price searched, but even a 100Gb one that's rated to take the kind of extremes (hot/cold) that a car goes through it won't be cheap at all.

I was thinking of doing the same thing. then I realized it would be just easier and useful to drop $500 on one of the new iPods coming out next week and use the iPod adapter. It works really well and is useful out side of the car.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realize the HDD is an integral piece of the nav system, but that makes sense.

I have an iPhone now, and would consider a video iPod for displaying on the G37's screen - assuming that works while the car's in motion. (Passenger entertainment)

Hey carman. Welcome to NICO. The video iPod doesn't display on the G37's screen while in motion due to safety reasons. It's the same restrictions in Lexus vehicles. You can only watch the videos while the car is in park and with the parking brake on. Your iPhone will work well with the G37 because a review video that I watched showed a guy working with the iPhone and the G37 and things worked just fine.

Yea, no in motion videos are legal. rear passengers only.

So you're pretty much SOL if you want to entertain passengers in a G37 without a seperate system.

Hi Yimbie,

I've seen the same video with the iPhone connected to the G37. I wish my Audi had some sort of integration. Oh well.

Thanks for the info!
