Hi

I have recently just acquired a '72 240z that has been in my family for years. One of its many charms is that to start the thing (or shut it off for that matter) you have to gently wiggle the key to start to turn it in the ignition. Sometimes it will turn right away, sometimes it can take as long as 15 minutes to get it right. You can't force it or you will break the key off though a slight wiggle will do it. Any ideas on what I can do to fix that?

Appreciate any help or direction. Thanks!

Maybe the cylinder is loose. This happened in my 240sx and I took apart the steering column covers and the cylinder lock ended up having a loose bolt. Tightened that fool up and voila', back to normal. Hopefully your issue can be solved this way. Good luck.

the lock cylinders are kinda a problem as these cars age (try starting ti with a different key you might be suprised that a butterknife will do the job) replacments are available fomr specialty suppliers or your local locksmith
