OK, my friend said he would sell me a sr20 for 400, but I could probably talk him down to 200. I found a site that is selling a bare block for 400. should I do this ? Oh, and there both red tops. Thoughts ideas??

before you do this... please think and plan carefully. We all know that you are kind of impulsive when it comes to sound decision making...

SO, please realize that you need more than just the engine if you are going to swap. Actually, chitload more than just the engine.

For people with no experience in SRs, I recommend getting a front clip so the parts you need are ALL there or a swap package.

What's going to happen is, you are going to try to rebuild the engine, scramble for parts that you don't have, going to have to search the internet for parts you need and it's going to be a complete nightmare. I know this because I helped my friend put together a SR swap package when only thing he had was the block and the head. I swored to him that's the last time Im doing that because searching for parts (chitload of parts) SUCKS!! I was lucky because I had lots of experience with SRs and I knew exactly what he needed and such.

Do yourself and the SR block a favor and think and plan before you decide to do this.

Unless if you already got a SR and just want a block to slowly build up as you get the money for the parts and still have a car to drive. I've been thinking about doing this but I got too much to fix on my car before I can start doing that.

Ok, here is what I was goin to do. Take the engine my friend had, take out all the internals, the head and such, then put it in the block I found on the net. my friend told me that the engine still works it's just working on three cylinders. So that should be all I would have to do right?

I decided to do pretty much the same thing. I had to get a second engine cause the first had been build badly and warped a cylinder slightly. Repairable, but probably needs sleeving. But not complete engines, and I'm finding myself trying to peice together all these random parts that are adding up fast. It would probably be a better idea to buy a complete drop-in if you want to drive it right away. I'm building mine for power, so I'm in no rush right now. Those little loose ends are expensive.

Getting a front clip was the best decision I ever made. EVAR!!!!. The small stuff can add up when trying to get an SR running. But if you have a defined plan, go for it
