As the subject says, I’m having nothing but problems with many dealerships in British Columbia. I have been mislead and lied too repeatedly about the availability of the Versa.

I’m at a point where I honestly can no longer tell who is being truthful and who is BSing me.

I put a down payment/deposit on a Red 6 speed SL Oct 8 /2006. I have now been told by this dealer that the car will not arrive until mid-late January. However, 2 different Sales managers from 2 different dealers have told me that my order has actually never been placed. My current order in with Richmond Nissan (who have No communication skills) They won’t give me a concrete deliver date, and they continually tell me there is nothing else available despite the fact that I have confirmed otherwise.

Every time I ask a similar question I get a different answer. Each dealer says the other is not being truthful, how can I believe anyone?

I’ve never had such a bad sales experience in my entire life. My family and I have owned 3 Hondas (1 new) and 5 Acura’s (4 new) and we were never treated like this.

I work in sales and find this whole process to be disgusting, unnecessary, and frustrating….to date not one person I’ve dealt with has shown any integrity…..and this has completely turned me off of the Nissan brand

What should I do? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Legally, I have no idea...you're a little far North for me to guide you on those matters.

Personally, how big of a deposit are you talking about? Sounds like it is more than the usual $500. If it is only $500 (don't flame me, I know it's a lot of money!), I would simply ask for it back. If they won't fork it over, then you just paid $500 to learn that the dealership is ran by crooks. Did you get a contract or proof of receipt?

Also, if you are having this many problems with a deposit on a phantom car, imagine the issues you may have after you get the car, which begs the question, why would you want to pursue a car, or anything, any further from either dealer?

That's my 2 cents....

We gave them a $1000 deposit (which they insisted was the min) However, the salesmen sais they would give it back. I'll be going there tomorrow...hopefully there won't be any problems.

I was never given a copy of the bill of sale (didin't even think to ask)...but I do have my Visa receipt.

My wife really wants a Versa. If it was my car I'd look elsewhere for a different make altogether.

At the very least I will never do business with Ricmond Nissan again....frankly, I will never do any business with anybody in ALL of Ricmond ever again. This area of Vancouver caters mostly to the Chinese community and in my experience these businesses make it clear that they do want me as a customer.

The Vera is very hard to get right now. On hand stocks are low and production does not seem to keep up with demand. It seams dealers are being kept in the dark about delivery of Versa. The Honda Fit Sport had exactly the same problem several months ago. Honda had none and dealers really had no idea when they could get one, yet the would happily take your deposit. There are Versa's around, you just may either have to change your configuration or else be patient and wait.

For example, I found a silver SL 6 speed in Surrey and a Red S 6 speed at the same location. If you are interested you will have to go to the dealer cuz dealers will not transfer cars between dealerships.

As for your deposit. If you ask you will get it back without any problem. I hear the SX4 is nice.

As was stated above, the biggest problem is that there is a real shortage of SLs in Canada (and US for that matter). Many dealerships do not know if/when they will be getting more SLs. Sometimes they get some in but they are already promised to previous customers. Nissan really underestimated the mix of Versas that people would be buying. They built too many S models but not enough SLs. In Winnipeg, there are about 20 S models sitting at the 4 dealerships, not being sold. As soon as an SL hits the lot, it's gone.

I can understand that there is a shortage.

However, my problem is that these dealers keep saying they can get something when they can't....And I'm seriously pissed that I've been waiting for almost 7 weeks and my dealer hasn't even ordered my car...why would they do this?

Technically the dealer can't "Order" your car. They can put in a request for the configuration when Nissan requests their allocation orders. IF Nissan makes a car in the configuration that you request at the time of allocation, then it is put through and marked for that dealer. You then eventually get a VIN (average time has been 8 weeks) and the car shows up 2-6 weeks after the VIN comes through.

6-speed SL's are in VERY short supply right now, even shorter supply than CVT's. For example, As of last week, there were... 16? roughly SL's in all of Washington state. 3 of them were manuals, none were red. The remainder were CVT's, and most of them fully loaded.

If you are truly interested in the Versa, you will seriously need to consider becoming more flexible in what you will accept.

This is starting to happen pretty often. It's looking like dealers are holding out on placing an order in the hopes of finding one around town somewhere. My theory is that they don't want to have to wait 4 months to make a sale and would like to complete it as soon as possible. I'm thinking this is a pretty common practice all across the board with all manufacturers. If you've ever gone into a dealership to order a car, they first thing they always say is, "Lets see if we can find one with a similar configuration." Man SL's are hard to come by, and dealers have to know this. But for some reason, they keep holding out.

I'll have to agree about Richmond Nissan. I did not have any pleasant experience there the 2 times I have been to check the Versa last August. I ended up at Southside Nissan, on Marine Drive in Vancouver, where it was a lot more pleasant and straightforward.

I know there is a shortage of Versas in highly populated areas (major urban cities and especially in the North East Us). However I am in West Texas I have 4 Versas on my lot and the dealership that is about 15 miles has about three. It may be adventageous for you to look else where and maybe fly there and pick it up...I would be more than happy to search and see if there is one close to you with the options and features you want.
