I recently purchased a 2001 Infinity QX4 with 155,000 miles. I got it from a friends mom and she let her kids destroy it so there are many problems.

They even went as far as to completely spray paint it, the whole car was covered in blue and yellow spray paint. Then to get the paint off they used gasoline which ate throw the clear coat and to the metal in some parts. You can see the car a mile away it looks horrible. Thats just the exterior.

I need to fix the mechanical aspects ASAP though. For one the rear muffler pipe broke off where it mounts onto the front muffler in the middle. It just swings there. I checked out some replacement rear mufflers on Ebay and they were about $80 shipped is this a good price? Is Pathfinder and QX4 interchangeable?

I need to get the drivers side headlight fixed it won't turn on and its not the bulb. Its the ballast I am almost positive. Where can I find one and whats a good price?

The engine has some SERIOUS problems, Ill go to AutoZone tomorrow and get the codes. Basically everytime I idle at a stoplight or something similar the car will chug and sputter and RPMs jump around below 1k and the engine will completely die. It will start right back up though. Driving faster then idle isnt bad. Any ideas?

Also the exhaust fumes are black sometimes.

Sorry to hear it bro. She'll be fixable that's for sure. Take your time to do everything right and I'm sure you'll like the result. These really are great SUVs - there's reports of 500,000+ miles on pathfinders with original engines and trans.

spoiled brats. pissy little arseholes like that should not be allowed anywhere near an infiniti. 2001's are gorgeous, they obviously have no appreciation for anything if their stupid enough to pour gas on the paint and spray paint it. if I were you id run them over with your qx4 before you spend any money on it. Consider it its revenge.

The rear piece comes as a unit -- resonator and pipes all the way up to a flange where it meets the pipe coming out of the muffler.

I bought mine for 120.50 + (3.64 for a gasket) but here in Winnipeg everything is expensive as all hell.

You should post up a pic i wanna see what this thing looks like. And get the codes for it as well. I dont think the engine is a serious problem. Just something small like always causing a "big" problem. how is the interior?

dude you need to take that thing apart and repaint it! haha that is absolutely sad...

anyways as far as the HIDs go, get a inexpensive kit with bulbs and ballasts instead of trying to buy one ballast or one bulb.

you could also search on ebay and see if you can find a single OEM ballast for a decent price. Our HID bulb size is d2r

email me if you're looking for a kit, I sell em

What a testament to the durability of the truck though... 155,000 miles and still on the road after 7 years of total neglect and abuse of what appears to be an extreme nature.

Just take one thing at a time and you get it going right.

Sounds like your going to start with the exhaust which is a good idea.

Get those codes pulled and fix those as they absolutely need to be taken care of to get your truck running smooth.

Might I suggest that you change as many fluids as possible as soon as possible. Something tells me that this woman wasn't really conscientious about preventative maintenance if she didn't even fix things that were obviously wrong.

As far as the engine problems, try a BG44K fuel treatment. You can get it on eBay for about $12/can shipped. The only thing close is Techron fuel treatment but even that is not as strong / effective. It really has no comparison. You just add it to the gas tank. BG44K will really clean out the whole fuel system. You'd be suprised at what it can do. M45s are notorious for needing to get the throttle bodies cleaned otherwise you get unresponsive and sluggish / studdering engines and BG44K is the king of fixing a lot of these problems. Go through a couple tanks of gas and then do an oil / filter change.

Then change the fuel filter. (easy)

Beyond that, I would change the rear and front differential gear oil, transmission drain and refill, 4X4 transfer case fluid change, a coolant flush, brake fluid flush, and a power steering fluid flush. It sounds like a lot, but it'll keep your truck on the road. You need to turn this truck's life around. Most of this can be done by you as long as you have a little mechanical ability.

I'm sure as you tackle these issues, check in with the forum, there are many people here that will help you through any problems.

Good luck!

Andrew
