Here is the long and short of it... I had a serious knocking noise, took my car to a ****ty shop and eventually had a "used" engine put in the 89 240sx I call my daily driver. The car stopped knocking for a while but basically returned back to knocking... The lifters have been changed so many times I have lost count. Sometimes it is quiet but most of the time it knocks, especially after it has bee driven for a long distance (try not to do that anymore). Is there anything else aside from the lifters that could cause that knocking noise? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

the reason i ask is the dohc engine is known for the timing chain guides being rubbed by the chain causing a tick/knock.

What weight oil are you using? Does it do it all the time or does it come and go or change at all?

^^^Knock sensors dont make noise, they sense high frequency vibrations.
