I purchased a new 2008 Altima 2.5SL in March and just noticed some serious errors in the owners manual concerning recommended fluids.
Page 9-2 of my manual has a table showing capacities on the left side and recommended fluids on the right side. The information on the right side contains many asterisks which refer to notes below the table. They are all wrong! The asterisks on the right side number from 2 to 7 while the notes on the bottom number from 1 to 6, that is, there is a shift that causes the asterisks to refer to the wrong notes. As a result, the recommended engine oil, which should refer to "Note 1", instead refers to "Note 2" which is "Use only Genuine Nissan CVT Fluid NS-2...". That would be a disaster! And the recommended CVT fluid, which should refer to "Note 2", instead refers to "Note 3" which says "Dextron VI type ATF can be used". Another disaster!
These are some pretty serious errors that can cause damage to the engine and transmission if followed. Please spread the word to other 2008 Altima owners you may know. I wrote to Nissan through their nissanusa website - does anyone know a better way of notifying them about this problem?
