This morning my car started performing irregular after twenty minutes of driving. I initially felt a jerk and then all the dash lights came on, the air randomly came on by itself and the jerking continued. I made it home and parked to wait the time out till my mechanic open. The car wouldn't start at all. Swapped the battery out but engine won't turn over and I'm getting solid security light. Please help

Could be alternator...since that is what keeps your car on after the initial start.

Do you think the alternator can cause jerking/jumping?

The alternator powers the entire car. You can run the car without it working, but all of your electronics, etc. will start to go nuts and eventually stop working. Because our cars use electronics for everything from fuel injection to power steering...I wouldn't be surprised.

Pull up to your nearest auto shop, they have testers for testing them. The reason why I think it's the alternator is because you say it won't start.
