Hi All

Was just looking in the service manual and can only see information about adjusting the headlights with the low beams on.

I'm quite happy with the lights when in low beam with the fog lights on but as soon as I hit high beam it's like they're pointing at the sky or something because they just seem to disappear into nothing. I see less with the high beams on then I can with the low beams.

Is there any way of adjusting them or is that just the way they are because they are the same bulb? Or is there any way of improving light output short of HID lights?

Thanks

As far as I know there is no high-beam adjustment. Since the low and high beam filaments are in the same bulb I'd assume that Nissan would have designed the housing and adjustment in order to align both at the same time, but perhaps not...

There is an electrical modification you can do to keep the fog lights on with high beams, but this is more of a workaround since the fog lights really don't go that far. If you're interested in this mod, see this thread.

HID retrofit "plug-n-play" kits do not belong in halogen reflector housings. They will scatter light everywhere and cause massive glare for other drivers, plus the typical blue color temperature of the lights will result in even worse visibility in inclement weather even though it may seem brighter. They are also technically illegal according to some DOT specification, if I recall correctly. See this page for more information regarding why HID conversions are a bad idea.

Furthermore, ensure that your current headlight bulbs are *not* ones with blue coating over the bulbs. The blue coating makes the light output seem brighter, but it is not. See this page and this page for more information.

I would suggest polishing your headlight assemblies with Meguiar's PlastX and a microfiber cloth. This will remove a significant amount of cloudiness and yellowness and should increase light output somewhat.

I was checking out the grounding mod to keep the fog lights on with the high beam because that would help a little.

The bulbs are clear Sylvania Xtravision bulbs I steer clear of the blue tinted things. They were slightly brighter then what ever was in the Pathy when I bought it but one of the high beam filaments has already burnt out after 2 months.

Has anyone had any experience running slightly higher wattage bulbs? Can the wiring harness handle a slight increase? A 55w bulbs draw 4.6 amps at 12 volts and a 65w bulbs draw 5.4 amps so I was contemplating getting a pair of these Osram Rallye 70/65w to try and see if there is any improvement.
