I've had a build thread going over on S/W since this past fall, so I figured I'd start it over here as well. I won't post up everything, but continue from here on out.
Here is the link to the thread over on S/W to bring it up to its current point:

The first 9 pages of photos are no longer available as the original Flickr album was accidently canceled, so if you don't want to read, and only want to see photos... go to page 9:-)

And here is the link to the new Flickr Album:

very cool, I love the choice of powerplant. It'll be awesome to see all the custom-fabricated parts you come up with for this platform.

WOW! You sir and a master fabricator and a hell of a designer!

You are one of very few S30's running a larger tire than myself, I'm running the smaller 315/30/17.

I love your tube welding jig, might have to make one sometime, my tig skills are in the early stages yet I hope to get half as good as you.

I hate your engine choice, the vg30dett in the s30 has been done,

I just hate the motor. It's over engineered and packaed in such a way that it's just a horrible pita to work on. I'd rather have a vg30et with 90% of the potential at a fraction of the cost and effort but maybe I'm just lazy, and cheap. It is good to see that you are addressing some of the vg30dett's engineering nightmares.

Looking forward to following your work.

Thank you for the kind words! Well, most of them;-)

To be completely honest, the VG was never in my plans for the car. I've had a 1UZ V8 for years now waiting for a donor car, so that was the original intent. The RB26 would have been my preferred choice, but its just too tall and long for what I want to do. After going back and forth for months the VG kind of fell into place. Its relatively compact, has a ton of potential, plenty strong out of the box (I do plan to run the motor without tearing it apart for a while)... there was no reason not to. That and I like a symetrical motor as it offers up much more creative manifolds and plumbing.
And yes, I do plan to strip it of its "nightmares" and turn it into something wicked:-)

You know ITB's and 6 little velocity stacks sitting on top would look pretty sweet. You'd have to ditch the turbo and sacrifice some power but it'd be a cool way to make this swap more unique and really save room under the hood. Throttle response should be awesome and the look would fit with the Z's older style in my opinion. Has anyone ever converted the vg to a carb setup like the old L28's?

This still looks to be an awesome build regardless of what engine you choose.

(I know this isnt a vg30 but it illustrates what I was picturing in my head )

I've seen a carb added to a vg30e, and I've seen pic's a the vg30de with itb's but I'm looking forward to his home made intake on the vg30dett. personally I'd love to see it made to a single turbo and single tb, half the piping and half the cost and still limitless potential.

I see you ditched the compresser and power steering pump - did you have to fabricate an alternator bracket?
