Sentra SE-R key lock woes

While working on my never ending project Sentra, the key lock cylinder has frozen up. More specifically the button that allows the key lock to be turned and release the key is jammed. Any ideas on how to repair such a thing? I guess replacing the entire assembly is probably the best, or only option but I thought you all might have some ideas.

Have you tried removing the button and using a small screw driver to release the button.
