hello. i have recently decided that i will be selling my 89 240 in around august/september. there is always some expense popping up and there was also a meeting with a guard rail that helped to make my decision. anyway, i have been looking at the b14 and b13 sentras, also the 94-97 galants (es or ls). i know i am on a nissan site but i still would like to know you guys opinions on these cars. like why the hell is a comparable 95 galant cost like $500-$1000 less than a sentra?

The Galant has shaky reliability, and isnt exactly fun to drive. Its just an appliance for moving people and objects.

However, the Sentra wont be as roomy, will cost more, and for the money you will get far fewer features and amenities.

On the Galant, the maintenance expenses will easily even out the price different. So it boils down to what you enjoy.

If you dont need the room, get the Sentra. If you carry people often, the Galant would be much nicer. The Galant also has a more durable interior.

Mitsubishi never went aerospace...remember, Nissan had an aerospace unit (rockets and stuff) until a couple of years ago? All Mitsubishi had was a contract to sell engines to its Korean affiliate (Hyundai) and cars to Chrysler. Mitsubishi builds a good car, but Nissans are built to a higher level of tolerance-across the board. It is the law of supply and demand...

haha, i was about to say something along the lines of that. IIRC, the Zero was a Mitsu plane, but it wasnt that great of one. ;)

go with a Sentra SE or older SE-R for something fun to drive, but like stated, they are VERY small.

I would go with the Galant. I used to own a 95 a while back and it was a great car. Not really anything you would want to soup up or anything but a good basic workhorse, that I thought looked quite nice. And the car wasn't really all that bad in performance either (for the class of car it is in), 140HP 2.4L,and handled just as well as anyother compact 4 door if i remeber correctly.

I can't really say all that much on the long-term reliablity issues since I only had the car for a year, and bought it brand new. But it performed flawlessly for the year that I did have it and i managed to log on 32k miles on it in that period.

Neither is really a bad choice, both have their strengths and weaknesses. It really comes down to what you want. Assuming both are in similar condition and similar options, the Sentra will be cheaper to own/operate, the Galant is a little more comfortable in comparison, but a little more expensive to maintain. If it were me and those were the only cars to choose from, I'd go with the one in better condition.Good luck

I'm just curious...is there a reason why you're limiting yourself to either a Sentra or a Galant?

Are there actually two cars that you've seen and you're trying to choose one, or is this hypothetical?

I say this alot but go look at a G20 , a little bigger than a sentra but the suspesion is liad out alot beatter

also dont bash mitsu too much guys , look under your hood at your electronics , alot of those peices are made by mitsusihi 90% of all nissans with cam angle sensors have those sensors from mitsubishi , along with many of the e16s engines have mitsu carbs or hitachi carbs

Get a Sentra.I'm biased though. I owned a 94 XE, it was my first car. There is room for three passangers (didn't allow people to sit behind me). It's small, but not ridiculously. I got the car from my uncle's driving school with 99k, and got rid of it two years later with 174k. The only reason I got rid of it was cause it got into an accident.

Reliability was insane. Neutral drop, redlining it off stoplights...nothing hurt that engine. It ran like a champ until the day I sold it to the junkyard.

Get a Sentra.

LOL Not really.I'd get the sentra becaues you do have an SR option. The SE-R has it or if you get a cheeper version the motor will still swap if you need to later. On the other hand...They made a Galant in a VR 4 version that is turbo AWD.Very hard to find in good shape.

yeah. if i could afford a 95 g20, i would get that hands down. i just think that a g20 in decent condition would be at least $6000 and i am looking to spend like $3000. i just like these two cars because although the sentra is smaller and sportier and the galant is more economical, i think that they are very silimar vehichles in many respects. i guess, i'll get whichever car deal offers the most value when its time to peace out the 240 in a couple months. :rolleyes

i gotta agree, i usually am not a big fan of Mitsu (always came off as "****y" rather than "confident"), anyway, i gotta admit having one of those turbo AWD Galants would be very sweet, and no one would see ya coming. A true sleeper.

no , 1991-1992 galant VR4's had the 4g engine , the 6 wouldnt fit as that gen galant is the same platform as the early 90s eclipse

the newer vr4 galants (99 and up??) in japan right now do have the turbo v6 tho

Which we don't get...the new galant coming out was designed and built in America...I say booo. Supposedly gonna put out 240 or so with a V6, what size? I forgot...something like 3.4liters...
