Sentra GXE help for a buddy

Hey guys, I'm coming over from the z32 forum and I could use a little help. A friend of mine has a 2002 Sentra and just got quoted from the shop (I told him not to go to Pep boys but he needed it fixed fast and we don't have the means here at college) for the evaporation canister, emissions canister, and control solenoid parts of the emissions systems for almost 1k to replace total.

He's been searching around but can't find any detailed info on these parts. Can anyone shed light on there function? Ease of replace? Price? Is this as much of a rip off as I think it is? Right now he is just going to have them replace the evap for about 500 b/c he doesn't have the money for the rest and they considered the others just recommended. Btw CEL is ON. Any info is greatly appreciated asap, Thanks guys

It's most likely only the valve that need replacing because it's sticking. It's a pretty easy fix. The canister/valve assembly is on the driver's side near the rear wheel if I remember correctly. Grab the FSM and take a look. It's also fairly cheap, but I don't remember exactly. Check a parts retailer like http://everythingnissan.com and go from there.

I believe he got code P1444 ? Is this a common Sentra code? No VG motor has 4 digit codes that I know of.

Hey, thanks nghtrain88. I'm the one with the Sentra. I still haven't gotten around to replacing anything yet.

I had the engine diagnostic done a while ago when the check engine light came on. They told me i need to replace the EVAP Purge valve (a.k.a EVAP canister?), the canister vent control solenoid, and emissions canister. not sure what these parts are or how to find the right parts I need to replace so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know where I can find a manual online that can show the maintenance procedure for replacing these parts as well?

Thanks, yea I was wondering where it was. Now I just gotta find the emissions system in there.
