I have a 01 Sentra CA and am looking for some info on my car. I've searched the web and have only found some reviews when the car came out & recalls that have been fixed after the car was purchased. Curious if anybody has seen anything about this model of the Sentra and problems they have had.

Thanks.

Never heard of the CA...what motor do you have in it? The 1.8 I assume?

CA is a Cali variant of the GXE/XE/1.8S insofar as I know. The only problems you'd want to worry about are the ECU foam issue and possibly the fuel pump recall (though whether '01 1.8ss are considered for this, I don't know).

the CA was developed mainly for california because of their strict emissions laws. its got a 1.8( basically a qg18de but the engine code is ca18de) with a little less horsepower than the standard gxe base model. i'd assume ( don't quote me on this) that it would be just like any other trim sentra with fuel pump recall and ecm recall possible. its just tuned for emissions mainly.

You are correct on the emissions part... The CA stands for clean air. It is a limited production model, nissan only made 500 in 2001. And no, the engine is NOT a ca18de... and shares nothing with the ca18de which is an older engine that hasn't been used here in the US since around '89. The engine is a QG18D. It has all kinds of new features (emissions wise), It was the first gasoline powered car to meet california's super ultra low emissions vehicle standards (SULEV). I highly doubt ANY of the recalls would apply on the CA, considering it doesn't have the same exhaust system, emissions system, ecu programing, or fuel system - they were all new low emissions technology on the CA model. However, it gets 1-2mpg less than the normal qg18 powered xe/gxe. As well as only having 122hp, instead of the normal 126hp.

i was trying to remember as much a/b the car as possible. didn't think a/b the different exhaust system and ecu. good save.

The ECU foam might still be an issue. It's packaging, not the computer itself. The foam deteriorates and the gas or whatever that it gives off messes with the circuitry.

The fuel pump is probably the same, since there'd really be no reason to change it for emissions purposes, as it's already rather small. However, I don't think this issue popped up on the '01s anyway.

Regardless, if you haven't had a problem yet, you're probably not a victim of either.

If you're having issues, just ask, but otherwise you're in the clear.

It's a 1.8 and it's a SULEV (Super Low Emissions Vehicle) only available here in Cali.

Now that you mention it I am having having a couple issues right now....first is the 'service engine soon' light is on - found out that the TPS is possibly bad. Second is the CD/Player works when it wants to and the light of the radio deck goes off and on. I think there's a short somewhere. I guess for a 01 with 60,400 miles it could be worse. Is there anybody who can tell me how to make this car go a little faster?

Modding in Cali is a pain. There are a couple of threads discussing how to get more power out of the 1.8 on the front page of Sentra General. Take a look at them.

I've heard of TPS going bad relatively often on early B15s. If that's what the SES code is, it's time to order one and get on it or have someone put it in.

Yeah I've heard that about the mods. I thought about a cold air intake but have heard that it can screw with the car's CA equipment. I'll take a look at the page you recomended. Working on the TPS...and have a friend that can install it for me.

Thanks.
