I recently ordered an oil filter relocation kit off of ebay after seeing someone on NICO with that specific one with no issues. However, he didn't use either of the two 1/8 NPT sending unit ports on the filter side. After getting it in the mail I tried to thread my prosport oil pressure sending unit into it. It threaded a short distance and got super tight. The sending unit threads perfect into my prosport sandwich plate adapter. The sending unit is 1/8-27 NPT (says on the sticker on the sending unit) which I thought was standard for sending units. Could the ports on the relocation kit be 1/8-18 NPT? I'm a fitting noob. I have no clue...

it sounds like the threads are the wrong sizee..
you could try to drill another hole on a different side and tap it to the right threads.
or maybe get a helicoil for the right size and try that? :gotme

How many turns did it go in? NPT is supposed to tighten as it goes.

But sometimes when its only a couple turns the 2 things could both be 1/8, but one be NPT and the other be BSPT, they are similar but different.

Can always tap it out.

I took the kit to work with me today and did some measuring etc. Turns out the two ports WERE 1/8-27 NPT, but they were just tapped super shallow so the short plugs would flush mount. I used some digital calipers to check the distance between thread peaks to make sure they were also 27 threads per inch. So....I just tapped them both farther so the pressure sender would thread down farther before getting too tight. Pics and stuff below:

It threaded in hand tight after farther tapping...

Now comes the issue....the holes are drilled and tapped to where they come out about 40% sunken into this flat area....

the oil temp sending unit...

The probe hits that flat area and prevents it from being able to thread...

I could put it on a drill press and drill down that flat area....or dremel it...or use some kind of fitting if the inside diameter allows....any ideas?

The norm is 1/8-18 npt for the US. You can get an adapter, I had to get one for my water temp.

I'd still recommend putting the oil temp sender in the pan for best readings.

Or as mentioned get some adapters/etc.

I agree that the pan is the best place to put the temp, but the car is my daily so for now that's not going to happen. I would like to move it down there at some point. As for it not fitting, I took it BACK to work today and used a CNC type bit on a drill press and then a dremel tool with that bit to hollow out the area in front of the port so that the probe can fit. I was apprehensive about drilling and cutting on my part, but I already re-tapped the ports, so what they heck.

The pic kinda sucks but here's what it looks like...the sending unit fits perfect now and the probe doesn't touch anything. The cut out area looks really rough in the pic but its just the machining marks from the bit. It's actually really smooth.

So that about concludes my issues. I put this kit together for under $130 with -10 AN braided stainless and fittings....a whole lot better than the $270 Greddy kit that only comes with barbed hose fittings and fake AN dress up collars. If anybody wants links to the stuff hit me up.
