Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C shouts out " YOU LIE!" to Obama after he talks about illegal immigrants. Although, it says he called to apologize later on, I think this just goes to show that people are losing respect for Obama and what he stnds for.

He's a House Rep, not a Senator.

Fortunately for the President, Mr. Wilson is mistaken. The bill may require illegal immigrants to BUY coverage (which I absolutely support), but they will receive no subsidies.

Not sure what Rep Wilson is claiming was a lie. That illegal immigrants would be required to purchase insurance? I'm pretty sure its impossible to secure health insurance (or any insurance) without a SSN.

I LOL'd when Obama said "there remains some significant details to be ironed out" and people started laughing. Again, show me how this can work.

We had an extensive discussion of this address in class today...

I love the logic of this country's politicians. Legislate that people not from this country, who have already displayed their lack of willingness to do the right thing and to follow our country's sovereign laws, buy health insurance coverage. Why not throw in a law that requires foreign terrorists in this country to turn in their arms to the police?

I don't understand this logic either. Shall we be requiring prisoners to purchase insurance for when they shove things up their anus to go to the hospital just to get out of the slammer for awhile?

Illegal alien to me equals the drug dealer on the corner which equals the serial killer on death row, therefore illegal alien equals serial killer on death row (so to speak, in terms of their position in society having done something illegal). Want to live in this country? Follow the rules like everyone before you did.

If I walked into your house unannounced, you would kick me out. Illegal alien comes into the country unannounced, kick him/her out. Bye, bye!

Just as a note, I understand the underlying reason why these people come here, I'm not an ignorant person. It's just that it's illegal and there's a reason for that.

How the hell do they propose to enforce this? If an illegal immigrant is injured and goes to the emergency room for care, the hospital can not deny him treatment if he has a TRUE medical emergency. It doesn't matter that he doesn't have a bit of documentation to prove who he is, where he lives, or where he works. When he is well enough to leave, the hospital will discharge him, he will walk out that door and vanish forever. How do you make someone buy medical insurance if they don't exist? These people don't want to be found. If they did, they'd apply for citizenship. And why should they? They get all the benefits of being a U.S. citizen without having to pay any taxes.

The bill would require illegal immigrants to purchase insurance with their own money, just as they currently are able to do for private insurance. The CRS report that FoxNews, Boehner, Wilson, etc. are citing specifically notes that the bill prohibits illegal immigrants from receiving federal subsidies to assist low-income families purchasing insurance. They are conveniently leaving that part of the bill out of their "reporting".

They should try the complete truth for a change and drop the hysterical incitements. It may be good for their wallets but it's bad for the country.

So it's right to institutionalize the taking advantage of Illegal Immigrants so that they can support our mess? I'ts not bad enough that some people in this country take advantage of their status to make a fast buck, now you want the whole country to do so? I love that logic even more. Who cares where the money comes from?

It requires illegals to purchase insurance. Mmhmm, yeah, ok. Good luck with that. Illegals try and stay under the radar so they can't be detected and deported. It's just like being a fugitive on the run. A requirement to buy insurance isn't going to do anything because they aren't going to buy it. How are they going to know if illegals have bought insurance? They first have to figure out who's an illegal in the first place, something that's hard to do as it is. And if they find an illegal, the next step is jail and then deportation.

Obama and Democrats, here's your sign.

He will not deport the illegal aliens because he's thinking that if he lets them stay then they will support him. He will let them have whatever he offeres to every American except we have a SS# and we can be tracked, they can't. So they get it for free like the people who live off of our tax dollars and we have to flip the bill for it all.

The constitution has worked all this time but it's standing in the way of his true adgenda. We don't need rights because we are nothing in thier eyes.

So lets make a list of what the gov has taken control of since this guy has been in office:

1)A major part of the american auto industry.2)A major part of the banking insudtry.3)Haulting water to Cali's farmers (food control) and I'm not 100% on this one so maybe someone can chime in but I heard somewhere that Ms. Obama has her hand in a large food processing company here in the US.4)Cutting funding for defence.5)Giving 3bill or was it 3mil? to Brazil's oil industry. This could have been used here in our country.6)Appointing very questionable people in powerful places. This will aid him in the things he wants to do and help him if he fails.7)Giving lots more of our tax dollars to his muscle orgination Acorn. This will help them to rig up more votes for him and his helpers in the future.8)?9)?10)?

What will he take over if we let him?:

1)Health care. This is one of the best ways to control a group of people.2)Gun rights. The second amendment is a bad thing in his eyes because this means the people can fight back if he launches an assult on the people.3)All radio stations, TV stations and internet, this way people can't communicate unless he allows it.4)?5)?

Open to your thoughts.

I dislike a lot of what Obama is doing, but I do have a few thoughts.

1) The auto industry. I feel any bailout was wrong, but he inherited the bailout from the previous administration. The way I understand it, the Bush Administration felt it had to be done but the President didn't want that hung on him on his way out of office so he deferred it to Obama. Apparently the bailout was going to happen with either administration.

2)The banking industry. Again, I feel that any bailout should not have happened, but at least Obama was shrewder than Bush in that he is getting some return (albeit small so far) on the taxpayers' money by insisting on stock & interest. All the previous administration did was throw money at the banks with no strings attached, enabling their buddies on Wall Street to steal us blind.

4) Cutting funding for defense. Even with the program cuts that I think you are referring to, these facts come from multiple sources:

"President Barack Obama’s topline budget projections for fiscal year 2010 allocate $534 billion to the Department of Defense, the largest allocation of any department. The amount represents roughly a 4-percent increase over the $513 billion allocated to the Pentagon in FY2009 under the Bush administration, and $6.7 billion more than the outgoing administration’s projections for FY 2010."

It would be nice if people would quit saying that a cut in growth is an actual cut. It isn't. We're spending more, just not as large of an increase in gov't spending as conservatives would like. Where's the conservative outrage that the gov't is spending an additional $21 billion on a single federal department? That is against your ideals of reduced federal spending. And where is that additional money coming from?

Like I said, I dislike a lot of what Obama is doing so I'm not going to defend him on everything, but many people around here and on the TV and radio will stoop at nothing to try to discredit him.

defending him on this forum is pointless. the level of debate here has gotten so low, that any thread related to the president, or his policies becomes damn near the transcript from a "Fox and Friends" episode.

The politics forum used to be a place for reasoned debate. Im sad to see it go.

Hmmmmmmm...Sounds like there is as much debate here between Reps and Dems as there is in Congress.....Just opposite? Realize that Republicans are on the offensive after 8 years of constant attacks from the Dems.

Yes, it's about time for the Politics forum to go.

This is a fair point.

However, it seems that a number of politicians on both sides of the aisle have decided that "deport all of them" isn't a viable solution.

I reckon that the mandate for them to buy coverage is to prevent hospitals from having to treat them on the public's dime.

I agree that it is impossible to enforce, but the criticism of Wilson's remark stands. He was inaccurate.

It's an immigration policy issue though, not a healthcare issue. You can't change immigration policy with a health bill. You take the situation as it is and make the best of it.

Hell, I'd just as soon legalize every one of them (save anyone with a criminal past), get them paying taxes, and have them do all the jobs that Americans don't want to do. I don't view mass immigration from Mexico as a negative, I only view millions of people "off the books" as a negative. Get them on the books and start booking that tax revenue!

I DO agree with the GOP that anyone on the "public option" needs to display proof of legal residence. This is a no brainer to me and I can't fathom any reason the Dems have for refusing it.

"Deport them all" is not viable. The law that allows illegals children born in the US to automatically become citizens needs to be changed as a first step, but it won't. Further punishing businesses who hire illegals instead of legal immigrants, with proper papers, or US citizens is another step. There are a lot of things that can be put in place in which they will leave on their own.

The problem with Wilson spouting off is that the President has no bill of his own. There are pieces and parts of a bill in the House. Lots of those "parts" are under scrutiny and are defining the eventual bill. The problem with the President is he is talking as if he actually has a bill and what is in it. He doesn't have one and it seems he does not really know what is in all the sections of the "possibly proposed" House bill as some of his statements have been opposite of what have been in the "parts" released.

The main fear is that the bill will be thrown together and submitted a couple of days before a vote, with amendments to it added the night before. This has been the trend over the last 9 months. The other issue is that should it pass it will be far easier to add additional stipulations to meet the end-results that the main Dem party players want in the first pass. It really does no good to add a stipulation saying those getting care must be valid citizens if 2 months later a "fast path" for illegals to receive amnesty is pushed through.

^^I have no quibble with this. I can see why TARP and the bailout were a little rushed, but there's no need for this bill to get thrown together.

They claim it is being rushed because it's needed right away. Notice the bill will not take affect till 2013... This is something that Clinton was trying to pass and he failed. We survived through the bush years without this. Now it has to be rushed.

There's more to this then we are seeing in the mainstream if it has to be rushed cause it being an emergency but will not take effect till years down the line.....

I will just point out a few things that fit together.1) A failing economy any people loosing jobs. The prez has his hand in this, if he didn't then it would work itself out. The whole time the prez is claiming that people who lose their jobs are worried about health care as a first concern. My first though when I have to change jobs is feeding my family and paying my bills.2) A some what major health concern that makes people realy think more about their health care.3) Most Americans are content with their health care. In that most they admit that the system needs to be adjust a little but pertty much all of them said it does not need to be taken over or remade by the gov.. Personaly i don't like how expencive it is but I pay it and I WORK.4) The gov's plan to remake healthcare or adjust health care has the same result. The gove will end up taxing the piss out of us to pay for the lazy people that choose to have kids in the double digets that we the poeple who WORK have to pay for. BTW: that's where poplation control needs to start if you're into that thing. If they choose to tax the insurance companies more to pay for the poeple who CHOOSE NOT TO WORK then in the end we will be paying for it , so it's basicly taxing us.

Why did my parents and grand parents teach me from birth to work hard, think hard and learn what I can to get ahead? This gov we have right now thinks that if you choose to sit on your a** all your life making excuses why you can't get ahead, he will reward you by giving you everything the hard working educated person worked his a** off to gain. Incase anyone out there is thinking that someone other then white has no chance of getting ahead then read:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_action

I have a business and I know first hand that anytime you give something to someone it will always come back to bite you in the a**. I've also seen this for years in other businesses I've worked in.

BTW: Fox is the only place where you can get the news as it is. Most of the other stations only tell you what they are approved to relaase to the public. You can watch Fox and then take a week to watch only other stations and then you will see how much you miss out on, I have done this to know.

Yep.....Let it stand on its own merits. The only reason to shove it through last minute is so others don't have a chance to really read it and those pushing it feel they have enough votes to do so. Total bullcrap when it's done by _anybody_....Worse when it goes against promises of transparency.

The best news channel out there is CNBC, at least IMO. I don't care about missing Johnny 2000 miles away from me nor that another police chase ended in an overturn in LA.

Just give me what's going on in the stuff that will affect everyone in the country if you want to be a national news organization, with valid debates with real experts (enter CNBC).
