Just wanted some input. I was thinking about selling my 92 Q with 182k, and my 93 Mazda MPV with 52k, and getting a 95Q.

Mazda MPV V6 RWD with 52k: $320092 Q45 with 182k: $2600Total value: $5800.

95 Q45 with 65k: $6500

Now, if I sell my two cars, I can afford a 95 Q, but of course I'll end up getting into a whole new bag of worms. I spent about $3700 on my 92 Q since acquiring it for $3800 in April, and it now needs chain guides, steering rack bushings, high pressure power steering hose, four new tires, and a transmission flush.

The MPV is mechanically perfect, but couldnt hurt to have a transmission flush done.

Would it be economically wise to sell these two vehicles and get a 95Q, which is supposed to be more reliable, more comfortable, and have a longer life transmission? I dont need two cars, and right now the Q is parked since it needs new PS hoses and tires, and the van is in such good shape.

Thanks,-Jesda

A 9 year old 1995 [made in 94] with 65k is still a 9 year old Q.Other than rubber disintergration...........hopefully the car has proof of at least 2 oil changes per year!

The question is can you find someone to give you $2600 for the 182k 92Q that needs as you say $3,000-$4,000 worth of work at minimum?

Every prebuy we see needs work now even the 97Q's as they are 7 years old.

If you pick up a 95 there is still some risk involved as well.

Your current 2 vehicles you know well and even with what your Q need,s its still a lot less than a 95.

Selling/buying of vehicles, often results in some loss of value for the consumer.

Keeping and fixing is a lower risk approach. It kinda depends on your finacial security as well.

If its high go ahead with the double sale for the 95, if its low stick with what you have.

Fred..:)

Very good points. Right now, living with my parents through the end of college, I'm in an economically advantageous position. But I guess saving that money for down payment on an M45 a few years down the road would be smarter than reviving another old Q.

Until then, I have a few small repairs plus a chain guide job to take care of.

The 92 Q will be back on the road come springtime!

Sell the MPV and fix up the 92..... Then when you can afford it, get rid of the 92....

It seems economically stupid to get rid of the 92 right now..... It does need some stuff, but afterwards it will be more reliable and better off than an average Q.... The 3200 will take care of most of the repairs for the Q....... And it should take care of all of it if you can DIY....... (minus chain guides and transmission flush)

And 65k for 6500...... id be very weary about that....... Something must be missing......

Jesda, I though you were convinced your guides were fine. Are you hearing noises? For sure you need to do it, they are probabl in pieces. You might be better off buying a used Maxima or something like that, would make saving up for a M45 easier, but than again it is hard to go back after you have a Q.

Well, the 1995 isnt an actual find. Its just KBB's value based on "good" condition and 65000 on the odometer. But its what I expect to pay locally, since most used cars here are comparatively cheap.

I dont think my guides are fine... and I dont think theyre broken. I just dont know! If I made it this far without having them done, perhaps theyve already broken apart and the pieces fell into the oil pan without upsetting the chain. Im going to have the oil pan cleaned out first to make sure.

I think my only reservation with letting the MPV go, is that its nice to have a vehicle with low miles and no mechanical flaws. Even the body is clean and the interior still has a hint of that new car smell from when my parents bought it a decade ago.

Another thing I'm hoping is that the M45 redesign will be dramatic enough to make the current models dirt cheap as used examples... making it possible to nab one for 25k by 2005. Sorry M45 owners, dont mean to bottom-wish your resale values. :)

Ah, the old Q45 and MPV in the hand versus the Q45 in the bush dilemma. Rampant speculation is cheap.

I did exactly that Jesda and glad I did. I had a 93Q with 107k needing chain guides tension rods, oil pan and many other things totaling over $3000. I sold it for $5000, then sold my Porsche 944 for $4100 and bought the 95Q45t with 59k miles for $9700. Aside from the main. I had to replace the upper links and steering boot on the 95Q. Other than that it has been great. If you are in St louis area, sell the Q there cars can go for good price there. You may need to look in Texas, California of Florida for your next Q.

Really, since almost all cars have something similiar [may be called something else across brands].Looks like this -------O. To locate the lower suspension arm with ball joint to resist the fore aft movement during acceleration and braking.Usually used to set the alignment- Caster.

On Q/J/300zx it is silcone [gooooooo] filled to isolate the impacts of the wheel from the body/frame. They fail [leak] after about [every] 4 years and 60k [depending on roads] and depending on how well you keep tires balanced............extra vibration stresses the outer rubber seal.
