As long as the Mazda dealer has a decent reputation and is at least in the ballpark of customer service as the Infiniti dealer (honest and technically competent service department), I'd probably go with the Mazda if it were up to me.
While I'm happy with the EX, I don't think I'd be able to deal with having a dealership that far away. Mine is close to 40 min from my house, but in between where my wife and I work. What also might factor in to your decision is that I think you're still eligible for some type coverage for towing your car to the Infiniti dealer, and I would think that they provide free loaner vehicles if you ever needed one. (I'm just picturing a worst case scenario where the car is inoperable for some reason.)
Well, either way to me your dilemma seems like a win-win

.
Yeah Infiniti will tow 250 miles and give a loaner but my issues were small but a PIA. Three 90 mile drives to finally get the fan replaced because the "right" tech did not hear the noise everyone else heard the first time. If the part cost over $500 a "special tech" has to diagnose it and order the part. In my case $1100 for the fan assembly. I just could not do anything I wanted with it. Pick up crap from the garden store, To small to use for home owner stuff. I called it a "Costco car" I needed something with much bigger cargo area with the same luxury stuff I became accustomed to....Mazda was not it.
Well I test drove the Mazda...........Not gonna happen. Its like something the Infiniti gave birth to then left as an orphan. Cheap vinyl seats, decent stereo. Nav looks like Hasbro or Mattel next to Infiniti. Noisy and bumpy. I did sell the Infiniti though for $24,500. Paid $23,800 last Summer .Not bad but it was not big enough to carry more than groceries.
So I went back to a Toyota, This time I found a loaded Venza, Kind of like the Infinti off the diet. It has the same tech. Smart key is actually better than the Infiniti.....you just
walk up to the car and the interior lights come on and the door unlocks. No need for the little button. I REALLY like that. As well as the automatic hatch open and close. So I at least get some of the "luxury" stuff I had without the OCD of where to park and the fear of something going wrong and having to drive 2 hours to get it looked at leave it and drive 6 more hours back and then back to the dealership to pick it up and drive home. Same screen size, Same caliber of Voice recognition, Same "bing" when a turn is coming up. I like that it breaks into the driver's side floor speaker while music is playing, which reminds me to mention the JBL upgraded system is excellent. If Infinti was a 10 the Venza's is a 9 Excellent stereo. Excellent dual screen implementation for driving info as well. I like that I can turn the 7" screen off and still get important driving information such as MPG,outside temps, Dual climate temps, clock, and some other driving info in the smaller 4" TFT screen.
71 Cubic feet of cargo. Nice piped Leather seating.
LOTS of Console and door storage. All kinds of bins and deep storage areas. Cup holders are not behind my reach. That was one of my pet peeves about the EX. Very little storage for the small stuff. and cup holder placement.
I passed on a 6 Cyl (since I left so much of the Infiniti on the table performance wise. I mean I avged 23MPG since I owned it. ) rarely opened it up, drove it like a limo. So I got the 4 banger in the Venza. Driving experience is the same since I drive it like a Limo (no choice but to It's a slug). Its louder but the excellent stereo masks all road and engine noise. 27+ though MPG running regular.
I just could not handle the dealership being so far away and I had a fan replacement and rear wheel noise issues. So I decided to stick with Toyotas. Dealership is a few miles away and the wife drives an ever reliable RAV. 4 cylinders are easy and inexpensive to maintain. Toyota service is a notch above US brands.
But Mazda is no match for the EX35 in anyway shape or form. The EX35 is in a class of it's own. I do miss it. But it wasn't practical (and sacrilege) to go to Home Depot and pick up 6 bags of mulch. The Venza can handle that and more easily. Ended up paying $1000 less than I got for the EX for a 2012 XLE with Nav and JBL and smart key .
The VSC is less expensive as well.
