Selling my EX.......Price?....ummm or not

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I just don't drive enough and have all that money sitting in the garage doing nothing. So I am going to throw it out there and see if it sells. If not I will keep it. I don't have an Infiniti dealer within 100 miles. Makes me nervous about keeping it.

You think this is a good price? $23650

Sounds like a good deal to me, but I am unsure of the price differential for 2 wheel vs AWD. BTW you have it listed as having both the 2 gb and 9 gb music box. Seems like a lot of car with low miles for the money. Good luck!

Much lower MPG as well. I tend to average around 20 with a mix of highway and city and moderate bursts of enthusiastic driving. But AWD is real nice when the white stuff covers greater Boston and I'm towing my snowmobile up to the trails in NH. Probably helps the surefootedness on twisty dry roads as well. But if I could get by with a rear drive car I'd be taking a hard look at the new Mustangs (or if I could swing it the gorgeous new Vette).

I would take my EX over a 6cyl Mustang or Camaro any day... Vette is not in the same realm.

just sayin...

So I went to the Infiniti dealer to get a multi point check up and while there they found I may ned a new radiator fan assy as it was winding down after the motor shut down with a slight squeal.

The service is Phenomenal. The charged me ZERO and I made an Appt to go back Monday and they will have a loaner for me waiting. This is making me want to keep the car. I have never had that kid of class act service from Honda or Toyota. So I raised the price to $24500 from $23,650 LOL. I I get it great, I made money driving the car for 7 months, If not I have a great car.

If I keep it I will be buying a 3/36 Elite service contract in June. If I sell it in a year the new owner will have peace of mind. The car will only have 37K or so on it.

If this helps any the residual on mine will be about $24k in may when the lease is up, I estimate it will have between 39 and 40k miles. I have the same options as you and it is AWD, a 2011 model. I think we plan to keep it at this point, but I'm going to try to extend the lease another 6 months to pay the residual down some more before I finance it.

If you do end up selling it, the warranty will make it attractive to the buyer.

Well I raised the price since I was not sure about selling it and got three calls. One offered my first price of $23,650. Looking at the new Mazda 3 Hatch backs. Basically the same car with local support Well not exactly the same....mechanically or powerwise. Just the utility and the tech is really nice on the Mazda.

Either way I have a great car. I juts hate that service is so far away. I like to keep the useless miles down.

Have you checked out the Mazda in person and given it a test drive? That'll probably help you make your decision. (And if you do, please report your impressions back to us.)

As long as the Mazda dealer has a decent reputation and is at least in the ballpark of customer service as the Infiniti dealer (honest and technically competent service department), I'd probably go with the Mazda if it were up to me.

While I'm happy with the EX, I don't think I'd be able to deal with having a dealership that far away. Mine is close to 40 min from my house, but in between where my wife and I work. What also might factor in to your decision is that I think you're still eligible for some type coverage for towing your car to the Infiniti dealer, and I would think that they provide free loaner vehicles if you ever needed one. (I'm just picturing a worst case scenario where the car is inoperable for some reason.)

Well, either way to me your dilemma seems like a win-win :) .

Have not driven the Mazda 3. I don;t think I will like it if it rides harsher than the EX. I don;t want to hit my head on the head liner should I run over a paper cup. The CX-5 I DID drive and it is a vable alternative. Only downside is the tech and they are reworking the tech ,engine and interior for 2015.

I think since my car is depreciating less than both 2014s I will sit on it and let the Mazdas depreciate. Escape is out (too many recalls and no discounted VSCs) CRV is out..way too much $$$ for too little, RAV 4 was in the mix but again too much money for a lot less vehicle. Subaru Outback interesting but expensive.

Like I said this EX is hard to replace even at $23500. Dealer here has a 2011 Journey AWD (No Premium) with 45K for $29,000 out of his mind. $26K at most

Yeah Infiniti will tow 250 miles and give a loaner but my issues were small but a PIA. Three 90 mile drives to finally get the fan replaced because the "right" tech did not hear the noise everyone else heard the first time. If the part cost over $500 a "special tech" has to diagnose it and order the part. In my case $1100 for the fan assembly. I just could not do anything I wanted with it. Pick up crap from the garden store, To small to use for home owner stuff. I called it a "Costco car" I needed something with much bigger cargo area with the same luxury stuff I became accustomed to....Mazda was not it.

Well I test drove the Mazda...........Not gonna happen. Its like something the Infiniti gave birth to then left as an orphan. Cheap vinyl seats, decent stereo. Nav looks like Hasbro or Mattel next to Infiniti. Noisy and bumpy. I did sell the Infiniti though for $24,500. Paid $23,800 last Summer .Not bad but it was not big enough to carry more than groceries.

So I went back to a Toyota, This time I found a loaded Venza, Kind of like the Infinti off the diet. It has the same tech. Smart key is actually better than the Infiniti.....you just walk up to the car and the interior lights come on and the door unlocks. No need for the little button. I REALLY like that. As well as the automatic hatch open and close. So I at least get some of the "luxury" stuff I had without the OCD of where to park and the fear of something going wrong and having to drive 2 hours to get it looked at leave it and drive 6 more hours back and then back to the dealership to pick it up and drive home. Same screen size, Same caliber of Voice recognition, Same "bing" when a turn is coming up. I like that it breaks into the driver's side floor speaker while music is playing, which reminds me to mention the JBL upgraded system is excellent. If Infinti was a 10 the Venza's is a 9 Excellent stereo. Excellent dual screen implementation for driving info as well. I like that I can turn the 7" screen off and still get important driving information such as MPG,outside temps, Dual climate temps, clock, and some other driving info in the smaller 4" TFT screen.

71 Cubic feet of cargo. Nice piped Leather seating. LOTS of Console and door storage. All kinds of bins and deep storage areas. Cup holders are not behind my reach. That was one of my pet peeves about the EX. Very little storage for the small stuff. and cup holder placement.

I passed on a 6 Cyl (since I left so much of the Infiniti on the table performance wise. I mean I avged 23MPG since I owned it. ) rarely opened it up, drove it like a limo. So I got the 4 banger in the Venza. Driving experience is the same since I drive it like a Limo (no choice but to It's a slug). Its louder but the excellent stereo masks all road and engine noise. 27+ though MPG running regular.

I just could not handle the dealership being so far away and I had a fan replacement and rear wheel noise issues. So I decided to stick with Toyotas. Dealership is a few miles away and the wife drives an ever reliable RAV. 4 cylinders are easy and inexpensive to maintain. Toyota service is a notch above US brands.

But Mazda is no match for the EX35 in anyway shape or form. The EX35 is in a class of it's own. I do miss it. But it wasn't practical (and sacrilege) to go to Home Depot and pick up 6 bags of mulch. The Venza can handle that and more easily. Ended up paying $1000 less than I got for the EX for a 2012 XLE with Nav and JBL and smart key .

The VSC is less expensive as well.

yes - interesting read and real world comparisons.

I rarely open mine up either and get 20mpg in the city/25 HWY, but when I do need to (or want to) hit the pedal, it is sure wonderful to have! My main/only real gripe is also the cup holders/lack of storage areas for little stuff. Other than that, I am still in love.

I averaged 23MPG in the 50000 miles I had it according to Fuelly. My gripe was that and the lack of storage. But its a small vehicle and I had to keep reminding myself of that. The new Mazda 3 hatch has the same cargo space. That put it in perspective for me. If I drove it like it wanted to be driven I would have been under 19 mpg easily. I left far too much on the table to keep the car. But if there was an Infiniti dealer where the Toyota dealer is, I would have probably felt better about keeping it and using a tarp to throw the dirty stuff in...or make two trips because the car IS a lot of fun to drive and wraps you in luxury.

I sure aint goin nowhere fast in the Venza LOL. It's like driving a couch LOL. I feel like an elf in the leather seats because they don't have the bolsters that wrap around the body for those sweepers at 80MPH...
. But at least I have most of the niceties of the Infinti. Gave up automatic seats and power steering wheel and yeah the push back in your seat acceleration.

I drove a G37 as a loaner and WOW....those extra 32 horses made a whole lot of difference and I think they use a different exhaust note. Sounded meaner. That is why I think the new Q50? with the 3.7 and 7 speed will be a rocking deal in a few years.

The woman who bought my car last week and travelled 4 hours to do so is still sending me emails how much she loves it.......That's really nice to know...and makes me a tad sad at the same time.

She's rubbing it in your face ! Haha.

For me, efficiency be damned. I just sold my 2007 CX-7 (heavily tuned) and I was happy to get 11-12mpg. And my 2010 4runner is not any better at 17mpg (although, I easily get 28mpg on the highway).

@kingfrog
Congrats on your new vehicle. It's nice to hear you're happy with it, and your experience with it so far. Do you plan on keeping this one longer than 6 months? :)

Also, it must be nice to own a car for a while with a nearly zero cost of ownership like you did. My wife and I really USE (but not abuse) our vehicles and can only dream of selling them for more than what we paid.

We'll miss all the extra activity in the forum that you contributed. :wavey:
