ok, im gonna get an alarm from visions for my 1990 hatch back, and i wanna know if installing it is something i can do myself, or i should get done pro? also, i have the "central" locks not power locks, where when you open or close the drivers, the passengers does the same, and if you open the passenger, the drivers will unlock. can this work with the relay on the alarm? thanks

Alarm installation isnt the worse thing in the world to do to your car. But it's close. I installed my own in my 96 240, it took me most of the weekend to do some of it, but i was working alone with no idea what i was doing. Those door locks can be made to work i think, or you can just get some door solenoids from ebay. My alarms still not done yet, (needs to interface with the headlights, also need to add hood/trunk pin switches and relocate the shock/pressure sensor) it's not really that bad to do yourself though, just get a ton of extra 16/18 gauge wire and assorted crimp connectors, also make sure you get the right relays) Fyi, i bought an excalibur alarm, with that and the relay socket for power locks (which i got ripped on) it cost about 110 dollars. I got it from a friendly stereo shop so that i could get help when i needed it

well i was mistaken about the proximity sensor, its extra, but this one does have a second shock sensor. i dont think it will be too hard, cause i have a pretty good idea what im doin with electronics and such. as for the door relays, shouldnt it come built in to the alarm? and if i dont want to get these things off ebay, how much are they at an electronics store? and the lights? like to make your parking lights flash when its armed?? one more thing, why do you need a hood pin switch?

your door lock relays arent built into the unit, you need to either wire them up seperately or buy a socket. (at least mine werent) my alarm had built in dome light and headlight flashing relays. The hood pin switch is to make sure someone doesnt open the hood, same with the trunk, if either switch is opened the alarm goes off. I'm good with electronics too (heck, i'm a programming major, it doesnt mean much though, it's just a time consuming miserable job to install an alarm) and i payed about 110 dollars for mine from a sterio shop, but i've seen similar ones for as much as 300 dollars. sounds like a rip to me.ast

well the whole deal was through insurance, and they made me get something installed, and i wasnt about to let them do my sub and amp, so they did the alarm. its the viper 300HF, and the door lock things are built in to the unit, but he couldnt wire then becuase the passenger one sticks or something, and its policy. but i think it took him about an hour and a half, and cost me 100CAD, (65-70USD), and i think it would have been worth it. it would have taken all weekend for me, and if something gets broken, someone else pays for it.

I bet you could do it yourself just fine. But if you want it done right, and you want your vehicle secure. take it someplace and have them do it for you. Be sure to ask about how they waranty their work.
