Self-healing paint issue

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

2008 EX35 purchases end of Jan 08This car has been sitting in dealer’s lot for about 5 month before I purchase it with about 25 miles on OD.

I noticed cloudy spot on the roof and a-pillar few months ago and did talk about it on this forum. I did a light wax and seems like it covers up the blur spot pretty well.

Over this long weekend I washed my car and give it a little detail. I noticed the cloudy spot on the paint again. This time it’s on the roof, a-pillar, hood, and rear bumper. I took my car to local dealership immediately and see what they can do about it.

Seems like you can only see the cloudy spot under direct sunlight, otherwise it look normal and shinny. However if you feel the paint it felt rough. Service advisor wasn’t able to see the spots on neither the hood nor the roof but the spot on a-pillar he can see. We got the service manager to look at it and he called up the owner of a body shop that they normally work with to look at the car to see what’s going on. The guy came, look at the car and feel the spots I was talking about. His response was “I have never seem anything like this before” and few minutes later he said he think the problem is on the surface of the paint and not within the paint. His conclusion was that he thinks it’s not a warranty issue but he is not 100% sure…

WTH… It’s not like I want to damage my paint and trying to cheat Infiniti for it. My car is always garaged and I took really good care of it. Never repaint it or anything…

Dealership will help me contact the regional rep this week, and we will see what is going in here with this fancy high tech self healing paint that seems to not working at all and giving people problems.

wait didnt you repaint the gray plastic body panel to match the rest of the car? did the shop redo everything for it so there would be color match?

Since there is a good separation line for the rear bumper, the re-painted part is only the bottom plastic part. The top of my rear bumper remains stock. My problem is on the top portion of the rear bumper... Side skirts and bottom door moldings (the one with chrome piece) were removed from the car and painted. I don't have any problem with my side skirts or the rear bumper that were painted after.

Ok guys,

I am bring this old thread back for a reason.
I decided to fight again with my paint issues.
The service guy at the dealership never call me back after they said they will contact someone in the higher level.
I spend $175 to have my car completely detailed and all the spots were either clayed away or buffed out.
Yesterday I was washing my car and I noticed the cloudy spots came back around the bumper again!
I am sure its something to do with the self healing paint crap again so I am going to the dealership and have them do something about it.
I am going to print this out too and show them that it's a problem they should have taken care of a year ago
