Self healing paint finish

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Excuse me if this has been previously discussed, but the coating on the EX35's paint that fills in small scratches when exposed to heat also reacts quickly to any bird droppings. I have had 2 instances where the droppings would be on the paint finish for about 6-12 hours. After cleaning them off, there is a definite mark left that etched the finish. Instead of the glass smooth finish, the area is dull, definitely visable and permanent. A cleaner/wax will not remove it. When I spoke to my Inifinti dealer, they were aware of the issue and said that they have been successful in removing them using special buffing with a compound, but it is not covered under warranty.

If the same droppings were on my 2007 BMW, it would wash off easily with no visible mark. So be cautious when parking under a tree that is hosting a bird convention!

use a bug and tar remover.. i use one that is citrus based and it will remove the mark, may take more then one application..

I got mine from Autozone i bought the more expensive one that stated safe for all clearcoats.. Some bug and tar removers use petroleum distillates i stayed away from them since the clearcoat is soft.

Widman,

I feel your pain. I have two marks just like this now since I bought my car. I tried everything and nothing worked.

AH, I see the trick now, I tried several bug and tar removers, but the mark remains. Maybe I got the wrong ones, however, it did not mess up the clear coat at all, but the marks still remain.

So birds and sap kill the paint, that sucks!!!
