I just purchased A 1993 240sx vert. It is pretty beat up, Took me about 10 min to fall in love with the thing.

My struts are worn out(originals w/123000 miles)

I was looking at prices and got a quote for $268 each from the dealer, thats parts only. Not installed. WOW!

I was told that there are 2 types of struts: the self-adjusting kind (these are the $268 ones) and regular ones(36 each).

How do I tell which ones are on my car?If I do have self adjusting can I replace with "normal" non-self adjusting struts?

it could be a kind of progressive rate on the strut. also some z31 turbo 300z's had an electronic control where you could adjust "modes" of the suspesion. maybe this is similar but computer controlled somehow, however, i have never heard of anything like this in any s chasis car.

Sound like the dealer is giving you a self adjusted price inflation. If you gonna spend that much you may as well get a set of coilovers.

Variable Orifice in the cartridge, it allows for different levels of damping based on the position of the rod in relation to it's unloaded height.
