1991 Nissan 300ZX Automatic Non-Turbo.My engine is seized and I need some help. A while ago my transmission went out so i did that myself. After it was installed i could notice a difference in acceleration, i would have to gas it to get it going. This Friday I found a wire coming off of the spark plug cap connected to the middle of the engine (there are six of these)that wasn't plugged in so i plugged it in. after that my acceleration was awesome. I was running the car pretty hard on the highway after i accelerated i heard a knock that progressively got worse. I pulled over, turned the engine off and then it smoked a little. I have been having a slow leak of oil so i put some quarts in. I started the engine the knock went away for a half of a second and then came back. I drove it to the nearest parking lot and left it over night. In the morning i decided to try to get it home. drove like 5miles with it knocking, driving less than 30MPH. Then the just engine stopped, i don't remember hearing any bad noises, like something breaking. Tried turning starting the car and it would make a small noise and then nothing. The people I have been talking to say i seized the engine. Now it is home, I turned the crankshaft it would turn a quarter of a turn and then get stuck. Tried starting the car and it would make more noise like it was trying to start and then stop. Thinking that I didn't seat the torque converter right, i started taking off the bolts to the flywheel. Another odd thing while i was doing that alot of liquid started comint out, looks like from the middle of the flywheel. As i was doing that the crankshaft became easier to turn. I tried starting the car again sounded like it wanted to start but then wouldn't.

Any help would be nice.I am going to try to take the transmission down and re seat the torque converter... If I don't have the transmission connected can i try to start the engine?

uh...so while you were pulling bolts out of the flexplate to the torque convertor the engine started leaking fluid?..... and you are sure you didn't pull the torque convertor drain plug? if the engine is siezed it's either an oil starvation problem and a piston siezed in a cylinder, or you snalled a rod and wedged itself solid, if you pull the trans and you can not get the engine to turn completely by hand, then yes your engine is siezed and you need a new engine, if however the engine turnes freely once it's no longer bolted to the torque convertor then you have a siezed transmission, rare but it can happen, and a good reason to swap to a 5 speed

first thing first, unbolt the torque convertor from the flexplate and see if the engine can be turned at the crank, then you'll know if it's the engine or trans, and if it's the trans, reseating isn't gonna help, you'll need a new one, if the torque convertor isn't seated all the way then you get no fluid and with no fluid the trans won't work period, so don't get your hopes up

Actually when i was jacking up the car it started leaking liquid (clearish, sweet tasting). I don't think i pulled a torque converter drain plug, just the four bolts off of the flexplate. I have unbolted to flexplate from the transmission, and it is hard to turn the car with the crankshaft, looks like a seized engine. I guess I am out to get a new car.. Anyone need I now have Nissan parts for sale.

actually how can you get all the bolts out of the torque plate if the engine is siezed and won't turn? I guess you'd have to pull the trans first

as for the fluid, clearish, sweet sounds like coolant, you sure there is no hole in the side fo your engine? could also be a blown hg and hydrolocked the cylinder, pull the plugs out, if you can turn the engine and it squirts coolant out one hole you found the problem

and this might be a good time to consider a 5 speed TT swap
