ok so i was recently looking for some ways to even further reduce the weight in my 89 hatch,
when i ended up on the seibon website. turns out they have everything in carbon fiber, doors, trunks, interior trim.. etc.
so now im wondering if anyone has used any of these and if theyre just plain worth it.
im also looking for other ways to reduce weight and ive already done most like removing interior, spare tire etc.
thanks :)

are you asking if carbon fiber parts are worth it?
or the brand Seibon worth it?

Carbon fiber is worth it in almost every application.. its light and strong. why do you think Professional race cars are made out of it?

Made from carbon fiber with Kevlar composite reinforcements, magnesium cross-members, and more. The basic carbon fiber parts meh the crap fades because it should be painted it, fitment is tricky, still mounts using the OEM hinges and tabs in most applications.

If you want a carbon fiber car buy one from the start, otherwise your just bolting on aftermarket panels that will probably not fit as good as OEM, Require hood latches, warp and fade over time.... If you want to save weight...... all lexan windows, stripped interior, single light weight seat.

Now if you looking at a carbon hatch.... not worth it unless you go with lexan instead of glass.

Wrong...

im just asking if the parts themselves would be worth it.
or would it make more of a difference to just buy more mods(bigger turbo, pistons and whatnot)
im pretty sure all CF doors & other body parts would come at a hefty price

It's not like the stock ones are any better.. I'm yet to see an economy car that could handle a side impact..

well eitherway i was going to paint over it, so i think that would help with the warping issue?

but id also like carbon cause of the lightweight factor,
less weight=better handling, stopping ability

What are you using the car for that will benefit from the lighter weight of the carbon parts?

I got a seibon hood for my mazda, i had an issue with the filliment ( expected) but a few weeks into having it on the car it started to fade in a really weird pattern, so i need to talk to siebon about that one because when you buy from a company like that you pay for quality, vs just buying a s*** one off of ebay.

My view of them will depend on how they handle this.

But basicly the CF that you buy from seibon is wet CF, yea its light as hell and strong, but its not what they use for racing, racing uses dry CF and it is alot stronger, and lighter, and ALOT more expensive then regular cf that most people will buy. I saved prob 10-12lbs over my stock hood and i can tell right away when i open the hood every day, but does it actualy do anything? not really.

Its mainly for looks unless your getting dry and your entire car is already stripped, like no seats, no a/c no glass/ gramlight rims/ when every extra pound counts, thats when cf is "functional" until then, its for looks.

I got my CF hood cuz the insurance company paid for it.

so does that mean there is no steel in the construction? I don't know a lot about magnesium, specifically it's corrosion resistance, but until now I still wasn't sure what the CF parts used for bracing. In pics they look like carbon sheeting molded over a stock steel frame.

as it stands, I'm on my 3rd hatch door that started rusting, and each time it's been something different that caused it. I know most would say it's not worth the money but for me, for my piece of mind, I would pay for a hatch that I knew could not rust on me.

I bought my seibon hood because my stock hood was smashed by road debris on the interstate. I was really suprised by the fitment. Mine fit almost as good as stock. It has been a year now since I put it on the car and it looks as good as new.

We carry a carbon fiber hood and hatch for the s13 as well. In regards to Maxxdsix's issue with fading, all of our Carbon Creations parts come with a one year warranty against this very issue. It starts to fade, we replace it, end of story. Let me know if you have any other questions or need a quote and I can help you out!

Nice Stones reference but my post was 100% relevant and true. No other carbon fiber manufacturer offers this type of warranty. Good luck getting one of our competetitors to warranty an issue like this.

partly for looks, but id also rather have a 250hp car thatd weigh in at about 2200 lbs than a 350hp thatd weigh about 3000lbs.
its mostly for road racing like time attack, but ill also be doing some drifting.

When people are using the hood for DD use, I recommend Aerocatch. You can pick them up from a few other sponsors here. We're looking into carrying them as well.
