5 lbs of weight savings contributes to negligible performance. If it were taken from the roof, it would be different (and even then, the performance gain would be pretty damn small).

I do agree with you with about carbon fiber will look ugly on most cars, but not a red Z. I think red and carbon fiber goes well as black and carbon fiber.

The only CF I plain on getting is the side mirror covers. I think they look great and the paint on mine isn't in the greatest condition.

I could see old muscle cars without a hood but would you really sport a Z without a hood? C'mon now...

Then again, is an 18lbs loss worth the aerodynamic loss? Depends how fast you're going, which depends on how much power your car has...which brings you to another question: If you have sufficient power to your car to bring it to the point where aerodynamics will matter, does an 18lbs weight reduction really make a difference? Or are you better off losing a couple of pounds less (with slightly lighter carbon fiber hood) and keep your car's aerodynamics?

$1325.... nitrous is $700.... add 55+whp for $700, or add unnecessary weight for almost twice that?... I would go with power. Its not like these cars don't have enough style on the street from factory anyway.... I dunno, i like the look but thats a lot of dough for no performance - but i at one time wanted the same thing. But when i talked to some friends with some fast cars they all said the same thing "What can you buy that adds power or increases performance for the same price as that kit that does nothing but add weight?"..... Made cents to me!

removing a hood is just about as useful as watching reruns of the weather channel. if anything you would probably slow down from wind resistance and turbulence.

which is stupid.

Not necessarily... removing the hood would cause underhood temps to drop like a rock. You'd be sucking in colder air, and it would be traveling through colder pipes to your engine (your intake manifold would probably be cooler). For the dragstrip, running no hood is probably a good thing. On a road coarse, depending how fast you go, it still might be a good thing. For a top speed run, you're better off sticking with your hood (not only for drag coefficient purposes, but for stability purposes as well).

They quoted me for a full CF lip kit for $1325 shipped. Is this a good buy?
I've decided to buy the authentic C-West CF lip kit instead of Seibon replicas. Full CF lip kit with shipping $1670. This kit is top notch in quality and fitment.

Another option for saving weight would be to get a CF hood without the thick layer of resin/gel/clearcoat. A pre-preg CF hood with a CF skeleton would probably weigh about half of the stock hood weight. Then you could just paint it.

And they're usually pretty cheap too.

Cheaper than the pretty glossy ones? Yes. Cheap in general...? eh.

Once the wife and I move, I'll look into doing some vacuum bagged CF pieces and compare weight and rigidity.
