I'm having a problem with my SR. The car's idle fluctuates between 900 and 1200 RPM, but won't die, it revs to 2500 rpm the cuts out, like it's hitting a limiter and smokes black and runs like crap before 2500 rpm. I've replaced the MAF (using a single cam), used two different mafs that came from a running car. What should I check for?

I'm thinking maybe TPS, but I'm un sure the proper procedure to check the tps...

I need help fast so I can sell the car.

btw, seems like this all started after I washed the engine bay...

From HERE, it sounds like your having a MAFS or MAFS wiring issue.

Look at the very last catagory

I've got a manual for the s14 sr and I've followed the flow chart for diagnosing the maf circuit and I have battery voltage at terminal b, and NO continuity between C and pin 26 on the ECM connector... I do have continuity behind my solder splices and my maf plug, so I'm wondering if I'm on the right terminal for the S13 sr... before I go hunting through my harness... TIA

One more thing I just noticed... I have no ground from any of the maf wires....

actually, I do have a good ground through the black wire, only with the battery connected.

I know this is the only thing that makes sense, but I've gone through three different mafs, including the original in the car, what are the odds they could all be crap...

Replaced the MAF with a known good maf (that makes four now), and still have the same problem.

Can anyone give any more suggestions?

understandable, and off with the harness. Looking at the harness it seems as the power starts at the battery (obdviously), then goes through some relays. and plugs...

Can someone help me to identify where and what some of the symbols in the fsm are?

Like what is c10 and 32? where is the eccs relay? etc...TIA!

Follow your MAFS wiring through your harness alll the way back to the ECU. I took me 3 weeks of troubleshooting a MAFS problem, replacing the part, going over my solder joints to make sure they had continuity.

If I had tested continuity from the MAFS to the ECU, I would've found that both signal wires had been severed by a zip tie. Most likely when the engine was pulled originally, the zipties that snap into holes in the body had cut the wire completely.

could it be about voltage to the maf because mine is running at 2.0 and it does the same thing as his car
