My 2007 Infiniti M35's engine is about to hit 100,000 miles. From what I know from the car fax (history) is that the M35 routinely went through check ups. I have had the car for about 7 months now and have already done a high mileage oil change and here soon going to do a transmission flush with new fluid. I am sure I can get many many more miles out of this M35, however with any engine with high mileage, it will eventually have problems. Once this happens I would like to know your opinion (advise) on what you would do.

I was thinking about doing a newer or freshly built VQ45HR with some modifications done for better performance and longevity. If I am going to do a engine swap I am going to upgrade the transmission and differential.
What is your take on what I should do (in a respectful manner... no harsh comments or low blows)
Also... by any chance, does anyone know on average this shall run and if anyone knows a establishment that does this around the Virginia Beach area? Any source is worth taking a look at. Thank you in advance :)

My opinion and advice:
Sell the 35 before it hits 100k miles and buy a 45.

Welcome.

I personally would purchase a used VQ35DE and perform a direct rebuild/swap and transfer my engine mods to the new motor. I would think this would be the least expensive approach. The VQ35DE engine can go for many more miles so I'm pretty sure something else will fail prior to the engine. The question is will it be worth repairing that something else just to continue using the M?

An engine swap always sounds like a exciting project to undertake. Looking at my VQ35DE electrical schematics recently there appears to be differences in the engine bay harness. I also believe the ECU would need to be changed but what I'm not sure of is the fuel pump, and the link between the ECU and BCM (Specifically if the BCM is programmed to only work with that ECU).

This would be an easy solution if I had not just finance the M35 7 months ago. I am going to be driving this M35 until my last payment. I want to know from the members on what engine / mods should I look into for when it comes to the time for an engine swap.
Thank you for your advice anyways. Anything is appreciated.

I agree with every newer engine the harness does not exacted match, that is why you have to make sure the engine is 100% compatiable with the harness. And yes every major components changed out from the vehicle, the ECU would have to be reseted. I understand the VQ35DE is the easiest, because that is what is comes with originally. What I like to look into and research is what kind of power gains would become of a VQ35DE if it was completely refurbished with aftermarket parts (i.e.: better cams, reinforced internals, maybe twin turbo 8-12 psi).

Is anyone from Virginia that knows an establishment with subject matter experts?

the VQ35DE engine is built strong...I'm close to 130K miles and the engine is still running strong. I have mods as well. Proper maintenance of the fluids, sensors, fuel system, PCV, brakes, sparkplugs, etc and the car will last....also if you have or plan on modding the car, it's best to get it tuned. I hear so many guys throw on mods to their cars (intake and exhaust mods) and don't tune their cars...before you know it, issues start to pop up. I think the VQ engines are great and at the same time - sensitive to specific mods....too lean or too rich is not good. I drive my car hard from time to time and use it as a daily driver...still strong.

if you're looking at swapping motors...check out GTM motorsports....They're in Cali though....

Those particular steps for the VQ35DE engine is a routine for me. I will always ensure that the maintenance is always up to date. I am hoping to receive another 100,000 miles out of my current engine.

I hope eventuaully that I find a shop that does full custom work such as engine rebuilding and tuning. But I consider myself still new to the area. I did look into that link that was attached and liked what I saw.
Does anyone else agree with the above statement that doing another VQ35DE with modifications is a great plan for a swap?

If it aint broken don't fix it :) if i had 5000 to spend on working engine id put supercharger on it.
My G35 (same engine) had 180k!!!! on it with original engine and transmission and it was running nice and smooth. All i did was spark plugs, oil changes, brakes and tires. Once i swapped control arms thats it! I sold it with 188k miles and im sure its still driving around nyc somewhere. Miss that car sometimes so quick and much lighter than M

Sound like you are expecting the car dying on you soon. These engines ( if well taken care of) can fruit out some decent mileage .

Oh no no no no. I do not expecet any engine to quit on me if I do the proper maintenance routinely. I guess I started off wrong on my posts. What I am trying to say is that I purchased this vehilce with making a VIP project in mind. I am not going to dive into this until the M35 is payed off. In other words I am mingling about with other M35 enthusiasts to get better ideas. Hopefully with all these inputs, I can come up with an awesome VIP layout.

VIP is relatively easy just find a body kit you like. Widen out your fenders and roll them then grab some 20" wheels and ksport air bag suspension. Depending on how much chamber you want/don't want get control arms. I would also get the whiter lights, led the exterior turn signal lights. Add a nicely integrated sub and amp under plexiglass with some lights, blue led the interior and done. For VIP you don't need any engine mods, however adding all this weight might give you the itch. I prefer the sleeper approach with a bit of a drop. Lol I've seen some peoes preference for VIP where the body kit extends so far out it looks like a waterpark slide.

One thing I sort of dislike is the people who hella flush and hella chamber their cars, it provides no performance functions. I was in Japan for a long long time and their version is similar but they put effort in the engine too. I love those cars that look so aggressive but only meows when you lay on the gas... LOL... makes me laugh out loud just thinking of it. Does anyone know if they sale Junction Produce here in the states? And has anyone heard of URAS body kits. I have been browsing online for quite some time, however most products I have found are outsource (i.e.: Japan or Taiwan)

What part of Virginia are you in? Hills garage in Baltimore is well known and has helped with making a G35 put down over 500hp to the wheels with a supercharger among many other turbo builds and regular UpRev tunes. Fizz autos ports can probly get you anything for vip stuff from body kits to curtains. There has already been a turbo'd vip build here in the states but with no dyno number ls or anything proving its extra power. GL with not moding the car before its payed off!

Well let us just say that I have learned from my mistakes in the past with modifying a vehicle prior to it being fully paid off. Talking about a big reality kick to the groin, however.... onward with the questions and answers. I am currently residing in Virginia Beach... the only place I have found is Atlantic Auto Customs or something like that. I am really looking forward to pay this off so I can jump onto this project... it is going to be FUN!!!! **drooling**
