My wife owns a 2010 G37 sedan which we just took for an oil change at 26,250 miles. The service advisor said she would need new tires probably at next service 30,000 miles and rear brake pads in less than a year. My wife takes extremely great care of her car and drives it under normal conditions. I thought rear brake could go as far as 100,000 miles before replacing I thought it was the front that needed replacing every 30,000 to 40,000 miles? When I asked the advisor about the rear brakes needing to be replaced so soon he said that the G had very small brake pads in the rear and the electronic braking system used the rear brakes a lot to maintain the cars balance when braking and also said the stock Goodyear tires were garbage. I just thought for the amount of care that is given to the car rotating tires every other oil change not driving the car hard or fast and not braking hard these estimates seem to extreme??

I call them Good for a Year. I have never had any luck with Goodyear.

Don't know about the brakes. I usually don't keep a car that long.

The tires are basic OEM tires...nothing special to make them last. At 26k, consider yourself lucky...I think mine lasted 12k. (2009 G37S sedan)

As for the brakes, I've never heard that the pads were "small". But since it is a wear item, it depends on how you drive. You don't need to brake hard to wear out pads...riding the brakes will wear them down much faster.

At the next service appointment, ask them to show you the pads with the tire off. Chances are you'll be okay until 60k.

the stock tires lasted about 9 months for me of my 2010 G37x... those tires are crap in my opinion. the tread wear rating is in the 200s... so ~20k miles on the tires is expected. switch to a tire with a 400 or better tread rating and you will get the tire life you expected.

And yes the rear brakes on our Gs are actually used quite a bit compared to most cars. (especially on my AWD G37x) Also, as they stated, the rear pads on a NON-sport model are small. In the 102k miles of my G37x my rear pads usually get changed twice before my front pads get changed.

Just a note: the rear pads on the G37 are very easy to find in your local parts store (will run you less than $50 for top ceramic pads), while the front pads will usually have to be ordered (if going aftermarket) or purchased from dealer.

Yep, the OEM tires are junk AND the rear brake pads wear out faster than any other car I've owned.
However, they are ez to replace!!
There are FSM's here in the FAQ that give you all the torque specs that you need.

First of all, I'd get a tire tread gauge so that you can check for yourself.....2/32nd is legal, but I replace at 4/32nd.....and have replaced sooner on my kids cars....sold the old ones on craigslist. :gapteeth:
Secondly, if money is an issue, then I would suggest getting some tools and performing your own maintenance....saving $$$ on maintenance is how I justify more tools!!! :yesnod Plus, you will know that it's done right.

Change your own brake pads. If I can do it, you can too (Know nothing about car maintenance). I don't think I changed my til 60K miles.

Time to get better tires. My coupe most tires only lasted 30K miles. Don't know about Sedan.
