I currently own a 2006 M35 Sport... I LOVE IT! I have put a lot of work into it and I am slowly turning it into a show car; with that said, I am looking to get a daily driver. I have been looking at the G35 sedans, more specifically an 07 G35S. I do not intend to put much money into this car; probably just some coilovers and new wheels to make it look a little sportier; no engine work.

What advice can anyone give me about this decision?
-Is the 07+ with the High Rev motor worth the extra $$$?
-Should I go with the G35S over the G35X? (Keep in mind I live in Charleston, SC where I do not deal with snow)
-Are there any years that are known for specific issues I should be aware of?

I hope I am able to get some responses from the experts around here. Thank you in advance!

You will be much happier with the S than you would be with the X, you don't need it. The S is faster and gets better gas mileage. I can't really answer your question about model specific issues, do your research.

Jmann - Thanks for the input. I figured the X would use more fuel due to the AWD aspect. I appreciate it man.

I saw an interesting comparison between a X and non X thru the slalom course....
The X beat the non-X in the wet AND the dry.
So, depends on what type of speed you are looking for. straight line, or twisties
And, the above test makes me think the X might be a safer option as well.

If you are considering the S and you are going to modify the suspension, then you are only gaining the tighter seats. Personally, I did not find the S seats comfortable in the sedan. However, the the S seats in the coupe were more comphy to me than in the sedan. You really need to sit in both!!! (S & nonS)

If you are concerned about gas mileage....then you might want to look at another vehicle. None of the G's get great mileage.
I believe that the 09 with more gears gets better, however starting in 09 prem. fuel is required. Whereas with the 07-08 sedans prem. is only recommended.
I live just north of CLT and don't get enough snow, but when we do!! :naughty:

SVT- Thanks for the info. I didn't realize that one of the main differences with the SPORT is just the suspension. I figured maybe it was geared a little differently or something like that. I am not looking for something REALLY fuel savvy, but my M35 is only getting about 16/19 right now from all the added weight from the upgrades, Anyway, I will definitely make sure I sit in both versions if there is that much of a difference in the seats. Since this will be my daily, its got to be comfortable!!

The S has larger brakes as well. It does have the VQ35HR which is pretty strong at 306hp.

Yes, same hp. S has paddle shifters, 2-tone interior, sport seats, bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, tighter steering, sport staggered wheels.

I have a 2004 saturn ion with 180,000 miles and runs great. Keeps the miles off my show G35 coupe.

That's one way to do it. I'd rather drive something daily than leave it in a garage, unless it's a car who's value is going up.

The only model that increases HP is the IPL...and that isn't worth the extra $$ IMO.
