Seeking advice on repainting a fender

I found a near mint fender off a gold qx4, i want to paint it black for my qx4. Ive sanded and spray painted before with good results. Just seeking advice from you guys on what sandpapers i should use for stripping the gold paint, then ill do some bondo on two nicks, two coats of primer, 2-3 coats black, 3 coats clear..all with spray cans.

I wonder if you can use paint stripper for this type of application? It would make the job quicker and would provide better results. Also, if I recall, it's recommended to use 5 coats of primer. Lastly, you should use clear coat with hardener, but be careful because I heard that it's a bit harder to work with.
