Just thought I'd throw this pic in for yuks. The boat pretty much dwarfs the car.

How does it affect handling? In a cross wind?

Well...

The rack is pretty stable, I've got nothing but praise for Thule products. That being said, it is kind of like having an 18' sail attached to your car. Locally it isn't bad. Highway speeds in a crosswind can feel a little uneasy. Not so much from a handling standpoint, I know the car isn't going to go anywhere, I just can't get over the subconscious fear that I could launch an eighteen foot Mahogany and fiberglass missile though someones car if it somehow broke loose.

This brings up a question that I'm interested in, which is: Is there an OEM roof-rack for the Versa?

If so, is there a reason to choose it over an third-party brand such as Thule, or vice versa.

It's not likely that any OEM is going to compete with a Thule. I don't subscribe to "you get what you pay for" as a general rule but it definitely applies to Thule.

There is no US OEM rack.

There IS an OEM rack system in Australia and Japan, but it doesn't look all that great, a Thule/Yakima would be way better.
