I was working on my turn signal switch which will not self-cancel after a left hand turn. So I took the steering column apart and removed the turn signal switch so that I could see how it works. Looks like the switch has a spring loaded plastic tab that pops closer to the steering column once you activate the turn signal. Then the steering column has a notch on it which trips the plastic tab and returns the signal to its neutral position. So while studying all of this while moving the steering wheel, the steering wheel locked in the right turn position. Once I put things back together, I can't now get the key to move to the right to allow me to start the car. Do I just need to fight the steering wheel a bit harder to get some movement or have I tripped something in the security system that I don't understand?

Ok. Big nevermind here. I just needed to tug the steering wheel hard right while I worked the key. Back in business.

This happened on my 99. I parked it and shut it off with only a slight turn to the right when pulling in. I get out of the car lock the doors - come back and I can't release the steering wheel. I have triple AAA and the guy gets there and we use the key to lock release the gear shifter and roll the car back to see if this will help - no luck - We crank on the wheel - I tried and he tried - no luck - We now decide to tow the car to Infiniti and they throw me into the waiting room while the car is removed from the flat bed - next thing after the coffee and donuts the Infiniti mechanic taps me on the shoulder and we go look at the car which is now in the service bay. He says I can't get this to do the lock like you explained to the service manager - Can you tell me what happened? - End of story is "Tug the Wheel - Hard" -
